This is the thread for entries into the Challenge #16 contest for books with covers that are boring, uninteresting, uninspiring, or mostly brown. Madeline has most graciously offered a small prize to the person who submits the cover deemed most boring (or perhaps the most brown?), as voted by TIOLI members at the end of the month.
So essentially, we'll be judging books by their covers. :)
ETA: This is NOT an entry in the contest, but here's a cover from my July reads that helped to inspire this contest:

I think mine fits every last one of your criteria!
Goodnight, John-Boy by Earl Hamner . . . ***COMPLETED***

(An upcoming road trip through several states, my sisters, mother and I; for nostalgia's sake, Walton's Mountain in Virginia is one of our planned stops.)

At least the second two have some images on them ...! lol I guess there really is some kind of an image on the first one two but it is pretty blah!

Here's a brown and boring gem. The book is about the disappearance of beautiful American landscapes, which makes the cover especially bad.

The 2.7 rating suggests that the book might also be bad. We shall see.

Well, I guess the beautiful landscape in your book in completely vanished as well! :)

I have a REALLY boring cover, but can't find a JPEG of it anywhere. I'll have to take a photo of it myself this evening. It's for Border Country by Raymond Williams.

>11 DorsVenabili: Clearly it's so boring that no one's been inspired to photograph it before now.

#12 - Exactly!

Does beige count as a light shade of brown?
This is the book I want to add

It seems mostly brown/beige to me. Will it count?

As far as I'm concerned, beige is brown's even more boring cousin. So please do count it! :)

>16 DorsVenabili: Makes me want to run out and buy the book, that does. :) When was that edition published?
19DorsVenabili
#18 - It is the first American edition, 1962. It's an old library hardcover.

I'd add my "boring" cover, but the directions in the How To thraed in the group just says to go to photobucket and copy and paste. I know there's a way to way to copy the url of the image and post that. But can't recall how now.

23> Thanks, I'd figured it out but looking over that other thread lead me to "If you use IE, select "Properties" then highlight the Address field and press Ctrl-C". I did not know that one.
Using many different browsers I sometimes forget or never knew the little tricks for them.

I've added two books to this challenge:
This is my mostly brown but NOT boring cover:

The Cotton Queen by Pamela Mors - COMPLETED
And this is my dark brown and boring cover:

The Legate's Daughter by Wallace Breem - COMPLETED

>25 DeltaQueen50:- I was going to read The Cotton Queen last month for the Q challenge. I'll do my best to get to it this month.

Mostly brown.

Definitely mostly brown. Even the darker coloring is a dark brown rather than black.

I'm not entering this book for this challenge, but I just wanted to add the picture of the cover:

I think this book counts: The Devil in Silver by Victor LaValle. The cover is black, but it's certainly a boring one, and the letters are orange-brown in color.

This is not part of this challenge as it belongs to the short story challenge. I'd never be able to make it through this fabulous book in one month. However, the cover is so boring...and so brown I thought I'd show it off here anyway! :)

I also want to get the following book listed...as I do hope to read it this month.

Its cover is definitely brown. It's not really boring. It is kind of puzzling, though.

Here's another...

What's with all these beds on my brown books?! :)
This image looks kind of yellowish. My book cover looks more brownish. If you turn off that light, it will be all brown. :)
