Mystery - Native American vampire

Hi Group - I read mysteries with Native American main characters. I read one such series that I can't remember who the author was, but I read all of them until I came to this particular one. I realized part way into the book that the character was a vampire and was really cranky because I don't like/read vampire books. To my surprise, I loved this book and wish I could find it again. It took place in modern times, somewhere in the southwest desert of the U.S., a Tony Hillerman type of book. Any ideas at all?
