Probably published in the 80s or 90s. Female photographer needs to shoot a cover for a romance novel. She creates a beach scene with sand in her apartment and during the shoot, falls for the male model. She's shy and thinks that he would probably go for the female model type instead, but he is a good guy who likes her and is impressed with her talent. I think he also dabbles in photography and lets her borrow his expensive Hasselblad camera.

Darn. I have another similar but not a match suggestion: To the Ends of the Earth (1983).

Female photographer falls for author, does work to illustrate his book. She is never without her camera and takes pictures of everyone, him included. The expense of her camera equipment is a reoccurring element.

I found it! It's a LaVyrle Spencer book called "Forsaking All Others". It's so good...
