Really vague but this was published around 2000. The main character was a very aspirational woman, a young professional, who had achieved what she wanted - in particular she wanted a nice home because she envied a school friend - and she boasted about being the person in her group of uni friends who had everyone round for dinner.
She had a great husband/boyfriend and they were friends with another couple. In each couple there was an extrovert one and a more sensible one and both spent time with each other's partners, and the narrator had an affair.
The cover, I think, was yellow. It wasn't my kind of read but a friend liked the sound of it.

It suddenly came to me! Eating Cake by Stella Duffy - a rare chick-lit read for me. Wasn't great and I wouldn't read it again but a friend will be pleased with the recommendation.
