I can't remember if we've talked about these before or not. Not really for an LL, but I still love them:

Wonderful. Suddenly I'm starting to like Dickens better than ever before.

Being obnoxious, I know, but if we ever do Dickens I think they should be included. After all, he had them. (Obviously they should be tagged as spoof or something like that).

Seems to me there is a site that catalogs imaginary books too. I think I found a reference to it here at LT long time ago.

Thanks for sharing that Jeremy. That's why I hang out here.

My favorite is "Hansard's Guide to Refreshing Sleep", especially since it's in two volumes (at least).

I have a dozen or so fake books, made of styrofoam with paper on two sides and the spine. No labels, though. I never thought to have labels made to paste onto the spine, but now I'm already scheming.

I have them to fill in space left by a book being read, or to fill in space on the shelf that is too narrow for a bookend. This keeps the adjacent book covers from warping from lack of support.

Can't recall where I got them, or what they were called. I'd like to have a few more.

Os.

Ooops - found them here > http://www.gaylord.com/adblock.asp?abid=810&search_by=desc&search_for=st...

I have a copy of the catalogue of Dickens' library which was made as part of the probate of his will.

I have no idea how to translate this into a Librarything Library

Sigh

>7 AuntieCatherine: - well, that's what we do around this group :-)

If you want to share the list, we can help, certainly! Let me know and I can get you the info on how to do that. We've done a fair number of libraries from probate inventories (and there's also an auction catalog of parts of Dickens' library, too).

For the basic rundown of how LLs work, there's the Cataloging Guide, but we can also help out with any questions at all. If the list you have is pretty workable, we might be able to do a "flash-mob" catalog of Dickens' library, where lots of folks help out at once (we just did one with Rudyard Kipling's this month!).

If Dickens were to update his fake book titles for early 21st century, what would they look like?

Here are a few thoughts. These would have resulted from his US tour, of course. Titles by or about public and/or political characters are not the opinion of the poster, but are simply intended to reflect modern cultural goofiness.
President Romney by Stephen King

Walmart Architecture: A Photographic Compendium

Anyone Can Grow Up to be President: A Non-Citizen’s Guide by Barack Obama

Any Exit Will Do: A Gastronomic Guide to the US Interstate Highway System

The Role of Compassionate Conservatism in the Development of Early 21st Century Democracies by G.W. Bush and Geraldo Rivera (edited by George Will)

A Comprehensive Directory of the US Middle Class: 2015 (1 vol)

The Confessions of St. Limbaugh – Part 1 (4 vols)
Go ahead...post your own. Some of us may need titles for our fake book placeholders.

AbeBooks did a Not-Book campaign a few years ago: http://www.abebooks.com/docs/not-books/index.shtml (we used to have a few of these floating around the office, but I haven't seen them for a while ...)

I like Henry VIII's "Making Marriage Work". The modern version could be by Rush Limbaugh, John Edwards, Newt Gingrich, and, unfortunately, many current and former elected officials.

I spotted a great title in second hand bookshop last week
The Morality of Wall Street, opened it up and it has a title page etc but thereafter it is all blank. I should have bought it !
