I read this book in the 80s, it was a larger hardcover book with illustrations and quite a bit of text, preteen/young adult? There was a family with many girls, the oldest was around 16-18 and the youngest a baby? The family either ran a general store, or lived above/near one. The children would get penny allowances.
In one chapter it said how people could buy broken crackers from the store cracker barrel, the girls liked this because you got a big bag for a penny with a mix of cracker flavours. The middle girls bought a bag and snuck the bag into bed and messed up the bed with crumbs.
In another chapter the girls wanted to buy their father a birthday present, so they all saved up their allowances for weeks and bought him a moustache cup, a teacup with a ledge to keep the drinker's moustache dry. The father was sad that they spent so much money on him that the family really couldn't afford, but he didn't let on and said how much he loved the present.

I'm pretty sure you mean All of a Kind Family? I loved that book when I was a kid!

I remember those books.
In one of the books, one of the sisters bragged to the teacher that she could tell time, so the teacher sent her to the school clock, to find out what time it was. The little girl stood by the clock until someone walked by, so she could ask what time it was, so she could go back to her classroom.
