Read 15-20 years ago, kids' fiction section of the library. I think the main character is a young man/boy, I *think* on the side of independence. However, the one thing I clearly remember is that Major John Andre visited in the boy's family's home, and his sister developed a crush on the Major. Later--this isn't entirely clear, but I think the boy may have been in a militia involved w/ the Major's arrest, which led to his execution as a spy.

I thought Patricia Beatty was the author, but haven't been able to find any book that looks close to the above. I think, though, that it *may* have been shelved at least close to the "B" authors. If I recall correctly, the same author may have written another book about a girl in whose house (in Philadelphia?) British troops were quartered--also a children's book.

Sounds like A Spy in Old West Point by Anne Emery, who also wrote A Spy in Old Philadelphia.
