Hello!
This year I'm determined to reduce my enormous TBR pile to something a little more sensible. I've made a starting list of 75 to work from, though I have no doubt that it will morph depending on what I fancy reading at the time and the inevitable additions. It's quite a while since I last tried to keep a reading log, it'll be fun to see if I can keep it up.

Welcome! Looks like we share The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse. I think we'll get along fine. :)

Oh my. Just the first day of the year, and I was so intrigued by that title in your second post that I've already looked it up and added it to my wishlist. Meanwhile, you've gained an official lurker by starting out with that one...

@ drneutron Thanks! Hollow Chocolate Bunnies was the first Rankin I read and I've been hooked ever since.
@ whitewavedarling You are most welcome to lurk. There are a couple more Durrell books in my current list. (Menagerie Manor & My Family and Other Animals) Hopefully I'll be adding some more as I find them. I've loved all the ones I've read so far and there are many I've not found yet.

I'll be curious to hear your reactions to his other work, too! I used to read animal-related works all the time, and planned to get back to it this year, but we have a new dog at home who has some special issues we weren't expecting (nightmares and attachment issues---we think he was abused before going to the shelter where we found him) and so I suspect much of our animal reading is tuned toward him in the near future!
7Unexpected
Aww, poor pup. Hope you find something useful for him soon.
8Unexpected
I must try to start adding little reviews of each book before I forget what I thought about them. Will try to add them later today.
9Unexpected
Ooops, disappeared for a while. Been busy buying more books than I should, and finally got some new shelves up to hold them all. Will update my read list soon.

Very-mini reviews so far:
1. A Zoo in my Luggage by Gerald Durrell *****
Very funny animal collecting antics from the late 1950's; what happens when you have a zoo but no where to put it.
2. Tolkien's Gown and Other Stories of Great Authors and Rare Books by Rick Gekoski ****
Anecdotes on rare books, writers and collectors. Interesting read.
3. - 7. The Spiderwick Chronicles by Holly Black & Tony DiTerlizzi *****
Excellent kids fantasy series, short & fast paced. Love the illustration style.
8. My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell *****
Memoir of Durrell's time on Corfu with his family in the 1930's. Very funny.
9. My Struggle by Paul Merton ****
A very silly fictional autobiography, flows much like his improv. Entertaining fast read.

Hello Leaf! Been busy buying more books than I should - I think we all know that story. :) My problem is that I don't have any more space for additional shelves. My Struggle sounds good. I'll keep that in mind. Have a nice weekend!
12Unexpected
Ah once the shelf space has run out, that's the time to start building furniture out of the books ;)

Updated my reading list, replaced the firethief trilogy with a few Durrell books I got my paws on recently.
Very-mini review:
10. The Kingdom and the Cave by Joan Aiken
A sweet adventure story following the adventures of Mickle the cat and Prince Michael as they save the Kingdom of Astalon. Great black and white wood-cut style illustrations. Little Me would have loved this as a bedtime story.
