I proposed combining the tag Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (Imaginary place) > Juvenile fiction with two of its variants:
* Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (Imaginary Place) -- Juvenile Fiction, and
* Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (Imaginary place)-Juvenile fiction.
Both variants got truncated to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (Imaginary place). As in, it appeared that the whole tag would go when I copy-pasted it into the box, but the short (read: wrong) version appeared when I hit the "submit" button.
Please fix this. If you can't fix it, stop allowing the use of tags too long to combine and/or separate.

I suggest posting this as a bug. I think it is more likely to get addressed in that group, though I still wouldn't hold my breath.

Don't change anything. i'm going to look.

The text field doesn't allow many characters. This has been a problem for a LOOOOONG time.

Not being a programmer, I don't know if this will come out right, but here goes:
The problem doesn't appear to be so much how many characters are allowed in the text box itself. It's more about how many are allowed in the combination proposal, and big the difference is.

Wow, Tim's looking already. I stand corrected.
>5 AnnaClaire:
The length discrepancy has the special problem of creating incorrect proposals as you note in the opening post. But really, we'd just like to be able to combine tags regardless of length.

I thought I'd seen this before - http://www.librarything.com/topic/144111. Funny it gets overlooked in Bug Collectors and instant action here...

I thought I'd said something about it before. No wonder I wasn't quite sure: it got zero attention, if replies are anything to go by.
