Probably read after 2002, thought it was Luanne Rice but isn't. Two sisters estranged, one lives in Nova Scotia, raises rabbits and weaves with their fur, other sister in New England and thinks her husband is having an affair. Daughter either in high school or beginning college, sister gets interested in photography. Decides to visit sister in NS, the ferry she is on has an accident and her photography equipment is ruined. She meets someone, might have been someone she knew in the past. Very descriptive of the area, the trees, ocean, cliffs, etc. Thanks!!

Good luck with this search, laketa. I will be following any reactions with interest. It's continually surprising to me, despite many years involvement with the Canadian Maritimes, just how many modern novels are set there, especially Nova Scotia -- which I know very well. Do you know whether the sister was on the mainland or on Cape Breton? Also, there's something peculiar in the geography you cite: though there certainly are and have been ferries to NS for ages, most people would, and still do, go by land -- unless the time-frame antedates the Canso Causeway.

I could have something wrong, then. I do remember the ferry accident for sure. Maybe it was an island off NS? I just know its driving me crazy.

There was in fact a ferry running between Maine and Nova Scotia, until three years ago. So your memory is probably right.

In re #4, I am well aware of the several ferries, having ridden them myself, on the way to and from my home in the Maritimes. I am merely suggesting that we might be able to identify the book if we had a teeeeeny bit clearer idea of the geography.

It seems to take place in Maine, not Nova Scotia, but the rabbits and ferry accident match The Summer I Dared. Which I found by googling "angora rabbits romance novel" :D.

That might be it! I don't remember the lobstering or the mute girl at this point, but I will look when I get home. It could have been an aunt and not a sister.......Barbara Delinsky is another author whose books I always read. I was about to start going through my book list and eliminating the ones that I knew could not be it. It must have been "angora" that got it! I googled all the words you used and more, except for angora, rarm! Thank you both so much and I will let yall know tomorrow if that is correct. (I wonder if I am getting the Luanne Rice book and this one all mixed up together.) If it is this book, it will renew my faith in my book list (the thought of having forgotten to list a book makes me ill) and I can finally stop obsessing about it. Thanks again!

That was it! Yall are the best!! Thank you, thank you! I seem to have mixed up the two books in my mind Summer of Roses by Luanne Rice (which is set in Nova Scotia) and The Summer I Dared by Barbara Delinsky. Thanks again!
