I read this book just a few years ago, and think it was probably published in the last 20 years, but am not sure.
A couple of boys are not wanted by their mother. As the eldest grows up, he keeps getting in trouble with the law. At one point he works for a laundromat and steals the money.
His brother is killed in a trailer fire.
Shortly afterwards the troubled young man murders his ex-girlfriend and winds up on death row.
A parallel story involves a minister who is kicked out of his church when one of the members decides he wants to run things.
The minister starts working at the prison where the aforementioned young man is incarcerated.
At one point the young man becomes a born again Christian, then insists on being executed, and that it be televised.
It might be a Christian author, but for the life of me I cannot recall either title or author.
Thanks!
