son has bipolar or some mental illness that isnt figured out until the end. He threatens her throughout the book in various ways. When reading these poritions, in the beginning, you think that she is being abused by her husband and then find out that its actually her son. This was fairly recent novel with othe rmystery surrounding this theme. Might have been a husband and daughter involved who couldnt live with the mother and son because of his situation. In the end, the child is diagnossed appropriately.

How young is "young" -- is he still a child, a teenager, or an adult?
Was it an adult novel or a young adult novel?

I haven't read it, but is it We Need to Talk About Kevin? From what I've heard about it, it's very similar to what you're describing.
