Hi!
I read a romance novel way back in 2003 or so and I can't for the life of me remember the title or author! I'm pretty sure it was published in the late 90's. Here's what I do remember:
The story is set in old England. A nobleman/rich man has to marry the daughter of a relative (either his second cousin or something) because of an agreement. The man has two daughters and the oldest one is in love with someone else. So her younger sister marries the man. There is no love between them and he figures he will go back to the city where his Mistress is and just carry on life as before, with his wife just there on the side. Eventually, however, they fall in love.
Here are a couple of scenes I remember: the wife gets along well with the friends of her husband and they all go see a play/performance by the man's mistress. She is very impressed and even goes to meet the woman, not knowing she is her husband's mistress. Once she finds out, she's very upset and she and her husband get into a big fight. He tries to tell himself he doesn't care but it's obvious he does.
One night, the wife walks off or something and is frightened when she finds herself alone and hears noises. She calls out for her husband instinctively, proving to her and him both that she does love him.
I think the title was something like "The Good Wife" or "The Good Husband" but I may be totally off!

Oh, darn! I feel like I've just recently read this book...unfortunately I read it online somewhere and have no recollection of the author or title. The only drawback to ebooks, you don't remember anything later.
The Viscount who loved me - Julia Quinn, is somewhat similar.

I don't remember a scene where the wife meets the mistress, but this is basically the plot of Georgette Heyer's The convenient marriage. Heyer never put sex scenes in her books though, so if there were any that you remember then this is definitely not your book!

While very similar, the story I remember didn't have any kidnapping or anything in it. I remember a sex scene; it wasn't by any means racy or explicit but it was there. Thank you for your help though! I thought I had it for a sec.

Yes! I hope so too. It's been driving me crazy for some time now. Thank you for your suggestions. I tried them out but you're right, it's not these. I also looked up Judith McNaught but it wasn't her.

Maybe something by Mary Balogh? The plot of First Comes Marriage comes to mind...not an exact match but perhaps there's another title that's a better fit.

On this group, unlike another (unnamed group) it is usual to start a NEW thread for each different title.
