I am thoroughly confused with the difference between two separate lists of books in the Avalon Series. According to www.goodreads.com the Order should be:

1. The Mists of Avalon
2. The Forest House
3. Lady of Avalon
4. Priestess of Avalon
5. Ancestors of Avalon
6. Ravens of Avalon
7. Sword of Avalon

However they also list:

1. The Mists of Avalon
2. The High Queen
3. The King Stag
4. The Prisoner in the Oak

Plus they say The Fall of Atlantis #1-2 is a related work to the Series but not an official part of the Series.

According to the first list I own:

Volumes 1-4 & also 6. However on the copy of The Forest House I recently bought it says on the Cover, The Best Selling Prequel to The Mists of Avalon. So which one is correct??

Looks like published order to me.

So where does the titles:

The High Queen
The King Stag
The Prisoner in the Oak fit into the Series then?? Also since the copy of The Forest House I recently bought says is it the Prequel to The Mists of Avalon does anyone feel I need to read this book before I re-read The Mists of Avalon?

#3 - Those are "books" within The Mists of Avalon. I usually favor published order for a series since that is the order as the author conceived them.

I haven't read the series in forever but I would recommend the published order, as in, starting with The Mists of Avalon. It's the best, first of all, and you get to know about the story, then, the other books complement it with back story and then what happens next. So, published order is my recommendation.

Well, I do know the story since I have read the book before & I also own the DVD of the Mini-Series which I have seen several times in the past.

I was just replying to the following question:

Also since the copy of The Forest House I recently bought says is it the Prequel to The Mists of Avalon does anyone feel I need to read this book before I re-read The Mists of Avalon?

Plus this thread might become a good reference to those who have not read the books yet and definitely should.
