I read this about 30+ years ago and would like to read it again but cant remember the title of the author (female I think).

The story is about a middle aged woman whose husband dies suddenly and she is forced to go and live with her daughters. None of her daughters offer to have her permanently and she ends up spending 4 months of the year with each of them. They are all very different, the eldest has a beautiful house and is very materialistic, the middle one is arty and lives in a flat with her boyfriend and the youngest lives a chaotic life on a farm. Eventually she meets someone else; I think he worked in a shop. That's about all the detail I can remember.

At the time I was a young mum also with three daughters and it really struck a chord with me; I have always thought about reading it again but now I have decided to I don't know where to look! I hope someone can help me.

This sounds like The winds of Heaven by Monica Dickens, where a widow lives with each of her three daughters in turn.

Yay, Sakerfalcon! I knew I had seen this in a Persephone reissue; I just couldn't remember which title. (And my brain kept going back to All Passion Spent, even though I knew that wasn't right.)
