First of a series set in Russia featuring detective Arkady Renko. 9 books so far, I believe. Great character, great series.

I LOVE GP.
It's one of my "island books" and I've probably read it a dozen times. Arkady is an amazingly complex and surprising character. The shit he goes through and puts up with is amazing. Of course, he's no picnic himself, but you know, he is the hero. I'll have to break out one of my copies!
