Hi! will list in bullet points everything i remember

- historical romance set amongst the London ton
- shy demure lady living in london
- part of the ton
- some sort of injustice happens to her family i think (might be mixing the plot with another book here)
- she ends up donning a mask at night, as she wanders the streets of london
- she's trailing the evil man she suspects did the injustice and is trying to find evidence

- during the day she attends social parties like balls and is very plain and boring, lacking personality
- while she's wearing the mask at night, she kisses a duke/lord/earl from the ton
- this lord/duke/earl finds her to be passionate and amazing when she allows him to have her way with her at night, either with the mask or in the dark
- they begin to have an affair whilst he has no idea who she is as she refuses to be with him without her mask or with the lights on
- she only allows herself this freedom because she believes she'll never experience it in real life, being a wallflower during the day
- he doesnt realise he knows her, that she's a lady from the ton that he finds very cold and icy and passionless

*THIS PART IS PIVOTAL SCENE ABOUT 2/3rds INTO THE BOOK*
- one day at a ball, she accidently wears a perfume that he recognises, to a ball, and he stops in his tracks, recognising the smell and realising the masked the lady is near him
- he finds it impossible to believe that it could be the cold lady that just walked past him and looks around him
- when he has no choice but to assume that it must be lady who's always given him the cold shoulder, he turns around and looks at her
- she senses him looking at her and turns around and gives herseld away when a look of panic briefly enters her face
- he corners her and takes her into a study/library in the house that the ball is being held and confronts her

- he is absolutely furious that he has been having a scandalous affair with a supposedly reputable and stiff lady of the ton
- she tries to ignore him and he continues to pursue, no longer gentle with her as he was when she was masked and with him

i cant remember how the story ends and sorry for the repitition but i really loved this book and i am so annoyed that i cant remember what its called.

its in the style of mary balogh, judith mcnaught, lisa kleypas etc

please help !!

This is 'A Secret Love' by Stephanie Laurens. It's book 5 of her Cynster series. You'll be pleased to know she's written lots of these.
"All of Regency London knows that no Cynster male would ever walk away from a lady in distress...but their protection can come at a tantalizingly high price. And now, Stephanie Laurens has created her boldest Cynster yet-Gabriel-a man who has known the pleasure of many women, but who has given his heart to no one.

She was desperate for his help...

When a mysterious lady, her face hidden by a black veil, begs Gabriel Cynster for his help, he cannot refuse her plea. For despite her disguise, Gabriel finds the woman alluring and he is powerless to deny her. But he exacts payment as only a Cynster would demand: with each piece of information he uncovers, she must pay him-in the form of a kiss.

He was powerless to resist...

Lady Alathea Morwellan knows Gabriel is intrigued, but despite the sparks that fly between them, they have never passed a civil moment together. Yet as the stakes get higher, so does Gabriel's desire for payment. And with each overpowering kiss, each passionate embrace, Alathea knows that she will not be able to resist his ultimate seduction...but what will happen when she reveals the truth?"
