"......I was pondering if I could ever remember...a time when a political party just made a decision not to exist, for all intents and purposes."

I doubt Limbaugh could remember anything not written for him. But it has happened, just not since the Civil War.

Rush's theory is that the Republican party is irrelevant because it isn't able to do anything, but it's been quite effective at blocking everything.

He's the king of the Tea Party and a big reason the Republicans have shifted rightwards in fear. Every time a Republican legislator attempts bipartisanship or tries to be a statesman rather than a partisan hack, Limbaugh brays for blood. And I know that "shrill" is supposed to be used exclusively to describe women with strong opinions, but that man is shrill. Except when he does his imitations, when he is merely ridiculous.

Limbaugh is a GREAT "representative" for the Repubs! He'll practically GUAR-RAN-TEE that American women vote IN DROVES for the Democrats! I couldn't be more pleased if (or until) Ted Cruz were nominated in 2016!

I can hardly wait! (By the way Cory Booker won BIG yesterday in New Jersey -- Chris Christie take note...)

#5 Booker won big state wide, but some of the COUNTY numbers are very surprising. From what I recall, Lonegan is against Federal aid after a disaster, but some of the counties where he led are those that were hardest hit by Hurricane Sandy last year.

Perform a search for 'Steve Lonegan's wife brush off' to see why women will be just a bit reluctant to vote for Steve Lonegan ever again.

No one is against Federal aid unless it is for somebody else

Lonegan favors no aid for the damages caused by Sandy.

"There is a moral question here," Lonegan said in an e-mail. "Should a group of people who have had their homes damaged by a hurricane have more political clout than a single person who has had their home destroyed by a tragedy?"

This opinion piece from 2010: http://www.frumforum.com/waterloo/ makes the point that commentators like Rush Limbaugh have interests that are not aligned with those of the Republican party. Conservative talk show hosts want their audience to be angry, not victorious. And the feedback loop is in their favor: angry voters don't want to compromise, and uncompromising voters are likely to lose, and then they get angrier.

'Steve Lonegan's wife brush off'
topped with

"What the video actually shows, she says, is her husband brushing away what he thought was a handler who was attempting to position him toward the cameras and the crowd.

Steve Lonegan is legally blind and his aides are often seen guiding him and using subtle hand signals to maneuver him into position.

"All throughout this campaign we have been assisting him with different hand signals and we were assisting him greatly during the concession speech," Lorraine Lonegan said.

She said later in the video you can see her husband refer to her and turn in the wrong direction, which demonstrates he didn't know where she was standing behind him."

This reminds me of a couple I used to know in my early twenties. There was a bit of a substance abuse issue with one person in the relationship. The other spent the better part of the time supporting them in their efforts to get sober. Unfortunately, once the sobriety happened, they had no idea what to do with their relationship and it ended.

I've found that sobriety is best taken with a drink.
