FOUND!! (edit: 2 hours later, plus more extreme googling)
The book is: The China Garden by Liz Berry (1999).
Hi! I'm searching for a fiction novel, possibly YA that was written in the 1980s-1990s, and definitely earlier than 2000 (I read it in 2008/2009, but even then it was quite old). It was set in modern times but featured historical themes and thus had fantasy elements. The cover was sort of yellow/green with dark shadows or flowers, a sort of blurry image, and i remember the title being something similar to 'The Lost Garden', 'The forgotten secret', etc but nothing comes up at all when I search it!
It was set in England, and featured a female protagonist staying in a historic area, maybe a country house. It is essentially a romance between the protagonist and possibly a 'bad-boy' figure who also possibly rode a motorcycle. (related to this i think once she had to catch the infrequent bus to town but missed it, and so got a ride from the boy on his bike)
Elements I remember definitely include an accidental celtic marriage when the male/female couple walk through/around an ancient stone circle or rock and thus become married; a Roman or Celtic cave underground; a very large/expansive garden or outdoor space; a scene where the male has an outdoor swim in the lake and the protagonist sees him naked; a scene where she wakes in the night, is wearing a white night-gown and dances in the light of the moon, and overall a very heavy mystical/mythological theme, it wasn't a usual YA cutesy romance (thus why I'm hesitant about labelling it as such).
I'm hoping someone can help me find it!! even though my description was so brief :S :S
