Oddly enough, though I've read the Tao Te Ching, I know essentially nothing about Taoism itself, and have recently become interested in fixing that. Anyone have recommendations for a solid book on Taoism?

There are some good recommendations:

Taoism is actually a rather amorphous term that covers a wide variety of practices in Chinese religious tradition.

The best book I've read for sorting out the various strains was The Shambhala guide to Taoism by Eva Wong.

For modern Western ideas of Taosim, I like: C. Alexander and Annellen M. Simpkins' Taoism : a guide to living in the balance

For classical Taoism as a philosophical system in China, I recommend:

Benjamin I. Schwartz's The world of thought in ancient China
Holmes Welch's Taoism: The Parting of the Way
