Possibly a bit premature, but as the series is ending in less than a week, who will replace it in your lives?? Eragon? or the old favourites the Hobbit or will you move into deeper realms dragonlance or darker Storm front?
The BBC reckon Warner Bros have plumped for Angie Sage's Magyk Have you read it? is it good? Really a worthy successor? or will nothing replace JK Rowling and you'll give up reading forever?

Well maybe I won't give reading up forever but I am gonna be sad when it's over! I've never heard of Magyk so I don't know if it could take HP's place!8)

I'm looking forward to completing the series, and then getting through some of my enormous TBR pile for a bit!

I've got a giant TBR pile. As for fantasy, I'm just getting into Robin Hobb, who's great and has several trilogies already written. And there's Jacqueline Carey, George RR Martin and Lian Hearn (just picked up The Harsh Cry of the Heron yesterday).

I'm going to start Lemony Snicket once I finish HP. My eight-year-old nephew highly recommends them to me!

And I've heard the Bartimaes (sp?)Trilogy is good.

I have no idea, I will probably start some real world stuff or gobble up historical romances for awhile. You know the kind with the incredibly beautiful herione and an unbeliveably handsome rich powerful man...you know the kind!

I'd love too LadyN hehe

I just don't know, I hadn't really thought about it. Most likely I'll just be rereading my bookshelf. It's so pathetic, Ive just never thought of the question what's next!

Like some others, I have a huge TBR pile to tackle, and will begin some series for the first time. However at this point, I can't see something taking Harry's place for me.

#1 reading fox: good question. I have been reading Magyk, but probably won't get it finished before Friday, same for To Ride Hell's Chasm.
The HP series will probably become a periodic re-read. Major re-reads for me have been/are Tolkien, Dune (and the other Dune books written by Frank Herbert), the Deryni books by Katherine Kurtz; the Space Trilogy by C.S. Lewis. Someday I want to re-read the Chronicles of Amber.

Here are recommendations from my local library.

Actually here is the entire list.

Does anyone think that J K is going to write any more books that deal with the Harry Potter world, like some stories of Hogwarts in the "old days" when the previous generation was there as students? I know that she said that she wasn't going to write any more books about Harry, though.
16pollysmith
I seriously doubt it. JKR realises that theres a time to stop.
18pollysmith
# 14 wow! Half magic! that was a cool book that I didn't think was around anymore! There were several along the same line that I read in the summer of my ninth year.

Edward Eager books were my favs as a kid.
20pollysmith
Yeah! That was his name! I'm gonna have to start collecting them for Missie and the kids I babysit for.

Cool, I'll check out the links. I have a hole to burn in my pocket at BookMooch: 8 points to use up! :)

#15 - On a recent interview, she said that she may write more about that world, but that Harry's story comes to a clear end. She said never say never, but that it was unlikely.

The link here, to Sunday, July 15 Philadlephia Inquirer attributes to JKR (in a BBC interview) that ROwling said "never say never" to more Harry stories. That might be a sloppy context or setup for what Rowling said... But otherwise it is a nice article arguing that JKR has achieved high status as master of children's literature. It too points to the idea that HP books have opened the door to reading for enjoyment amongst kids.

Article ends with advice from Ron's observation of Hermione: When in doubt, go to the library!
Same Sunday 07-15-07 Inquirer had article on HP influenced "wizard" music groups. Saw it in print, didn't read it yet (it's only Wednesday). But it has a picture of The Moaning Myrtles!

That's the interview I was talking about in #23 cad_lib. It was on "Jonathan Ross Tonight",and JKR had some really interesting things to say. I believe Mugglenet has the whole interview available to watch, although I may be wrong ;-)
