To anyone looking at this, this is mostly for my own benefit. I have decided to make some changes, one of them being that instead of adding the graphic novels I read to my '75 Book Challenge' thread, I will keep track of them on another thread, this thread. That being the case, I am going through my pervious threads and copying over the graphic novels.

56. Bleach, Vol. 1 - Tite Kubo
Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 192 pages
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
Ichigo Kurosaki can see ghosts. This leads him to Rukia, a Soul Reaper who destroys Hollows - soul devouring monsters. When Rukia is injured in battle she transfers her powers to Ichigo. The only problem is, Ichigo doesn't want the job.

Thoughts:
I've never really been into manga before. I like the lengthy books and the descriptiveness that comes with them. But an episode of the anime version of Bleach was on at a friend's house while I was there and I became interested in the story, so I thought I would give it a try. Actually, I watched the anime first and am only now reading the manga. I think I prefer watching the story to reading it, since the artist can only draw so much. Regardless the story is great enough to keep me reading, even though I already know what happens. That says something, right? The anime follows the book really well, but some things are bound to be changed. One of those was some dialogue. I haven't decided which I like better. The artwork is enjoyable too, although I hope that the drawings evolve as the characters get older. Anyways, five stars for a great story.

57. Bleach, Vol. 2 - Tite Kubo
Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200 pages
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
This second volume in the series is full of troubles for Ichigo and Rukia, both gruesome and comical, as Ichigo continues his training in being a Substitute Soul Reaper.

Thoughts:
There's still nothing really exciting yet, but that's because Kubo is still fleshing out the world and setting up the story. Ichigo is fleshed out more, Rukia's naiveté of the real world peaks through, Chad and Orihime are introduced as promising characters, and a few new characters are introduced. There are lots of hints dropped, promising that the story will get even better.

58. Bleach, Vol. 3 - Tite Kubo
Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200 pages
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
In this third installment, Kubo shifts gears from action to more of an emotional setting, the core of the story being Ichigo as his mother's gravesite, thinking about her death.

Thoughts:
I like action, but even so, I didn't mind the lack of it in this book, because the events that happened are important to the development of the characters and make them more lovable. We learn why Igicho has his tough guy attitude. Also, some foreshadowing. Who doesn't love a little foreshadowing.

59. Bleach, Vol. 4 - Tite Kubo
Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
In the fourth installment, there's deliberate lightheartedness to follow the emotional misery in the third book, from frog Hollows to crazy spiritualists, as Ichigo continues to protect Karakura town from Hollows.

Thoughts:
Without a serious plotline, this book gave the characters a chance to goof off a little and show a playful side. The book gave me a sense of the calm before the storm. People near Ichigo are beginning to sense Hollows, and Ichigo is fleshed out even more. (I guess that's a guarantee, when the story is split up like this) The artwork and dialogue are still entertaining as well.

60. Bleach, Vol. 5 - Tite Kubo
Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
In this fifth installment, Ichigo must defend his pride against a new rival, a mysterious classmate who can destroy Hollows with a spirit bow. Orihime and Chad also discover they have abilities they never knew about.

Thoughts:
Ichigo's development is basically halted in this book, but only so other characters, like Orihime and Chad and even Urahaha could develop more. We learn more about Uryuu, who was introduced in the end of the last book, and why he hates Ichigo so much. The interaction between them is actually quite entertaining. You know they're going to end up being friends simply because they're so alike. There's even some hints that other Soul Reapers may be introduced soon. Tite Kubo is still doing a great job with these books.

61. Bleach, Vol. 6 - Tite Kubo
Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
In the sixth installment, Ichigo and Uryuu are still trying to defeat all the Hollows that Uryuu's contest attracted. It looks like, however, that the bait Uryuu used is baiting more Hollows than expected.

Thoughts:
There's lots of action in this book, and some big decisions to be made by some of the characters. Lots of potential is just flowing out of this book. It's still going strong.

62. Bleach, Vol. 7 - Tite Kubo
Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
The Soul Reaper's have come for Rukia, and they are not happy. Here starts a story that's bigger than Hollows and Ichigo.

Thoughts:
Finally! The bigger picture has begun to appear. In this book, we are introduced to more Soul Reapers, Renji and Byakuya. Renji was a favorite of mine in the anime, so I'm happy to see him again. But more importantly, events are starting to unfold that are bigger than anything we've seen before. There's also some intense action here, with both Uryuu and Ichigo getting seriously injured. When all four of the main charcaters begin training to enhance their skills, you know a big story arc will show up soon. Can't wait.

63. Bleach, Vol. 8 - Tite Kubo
Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
Rukia has been taken back to the Soul Socitey and is facing execution for giving her powers to a human. Now Ichigo and his friends must train and grow stronger so that they can save her.

Thoughts:
The core of this eighth installment is Ichigo trying to get his Soul Reaper powers back and training under Urahara to learn the name of his sword. Also, something freaky happens that may have consequences later on. Of course, since I've watched the anime, I know what those consequences will be, but it was still thrilling to read about. There's a lot explained here that was missing before, and the story is progressing nicely. A new stroy arc is ready to begin and the characters are meeting it head on.

64. Bleach, Vol. 9 - Tite Kubo
Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
In this ninth installment, Ichigo and his friends have entered the Soul Society. Now they must make their way into the Seireitei itself and find Rukia, but to do that, they must get past the gatekeeper.

Thoughts:
Mostly, the characters are just running around causing mayhem, but it gives us lots of physical and verbal humor. We also learn more about the Soul Society and how it isn't as perect as Rukia led them to believe, and the relationship between Renji and Rukia. There's more foreshadowing, and even the artwork is evoling. Ichigo looked a little older in some of the drawing. Hurah! That's one problem I've encountered from having watched the anime first; the characters look older in the anime, ecspecially towards the end where I just left off. I have to remind myself when reading, that Ichigo and his friends ae only fifteen. These are quick reads, but even though I know what happens, I'm excited to get further into the story.

65. Bleach, Vol. 10 - Tite Kubo
Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
Ichigo and his friends get help getting into the Seireitei, but once there, they are faced with dozens of Soul Reapers intent on killing them.

Thoughts:
The first few chapters drag a little but once they all arrive in the Seireitei, lots of action and comedy begins. There's also more focus on the Soul Reapers, especially the captians. As this arc progresses, the story is getting better and more intense.

Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
Ichigo and his friends, scattered throughout the Sereitei, each battle their way closer to saving Rukia.

Thoughts:
I'm... uh... running out of things to say. It's the same as always, good action, awsome artwork, more character development. Go Bleach!

Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
All out war has been declared on the intruders and the Soul Reaper captains are given permission to join the fight and end it quickly.

Thoughts:
There is action is this book, but mostly, Kubo focuses on the story itself, specifically the relationship between Chad and Ichigo. It's nice to finally know why Chad's there. More intrigue is addressed with a highly suspenseful air about the whole situation. On to more.

68. Bleach, Vol. 13 - Tite Kubo
Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200
Rating: 5 stars

Summary:
In this thirteenth installment, Ichigo is stopped in his quest to save Rukia by captain of the 11th division, Zaraki Kenpachi.

Thoughts:
This book is full of action, mostly focusing on the battle between Ichigo and Kenpachi. I can't help but like Kenpachi. And the battle kept swinging both ways so it's hard to sense how it's going to end up. As we get closer to the actual rescue the books are getting more intense. The artwork doesn't suffer at all though. It's getting better. Kubo still has me hooked.

Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200

Summary:
A part of the team has finally reached Rukia, but are stopped by someone unexpected.

Thoughts:
...It's hard to review a book that's so short and not a full story without giving away too much. It's the same as the others. Awesome artwork, good story, new twists, and pages to laugh out loud at. Fourteen books in and it's still strong.

70. Bleach, Vol. 15 - Tite Kubo
Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
As the time of Rukia's execution comes closer, both Uryuu and Ichigo must make life changing decisions about their powers, while some Soul Reapers must deal with the death of one of their own.

Thoughts:
This book was important on the information front. It drops lots of new information, and raises the suspense even higher as suspicions behind Aizen's death rises and Ichigo tries to learn Ban-Kai in time to save Rukia. You have to give props to him and Uryuu for being so stubborn.

71. Bleach, Vol. 16 - Tite Kubo
Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
The date for Rukia's execution has been moved up again, and the Soul Society is in chaos with Soul Reapers pulling swords on each other.

Thoughts:
We're starting to see something wrong to everything here. Rukia's execution has been moved up again! Why's that? Some Soul Reapers are starting to question what is happening. Ichigo is still struggling to learn Ban Kai. He's getting stronger but will he make it in time? Ah the suspense turns up another notch. With Ichigo, though, you don't get the sense that it won’t work out even as the impossibility rises, just that it will be one hell of a show when he gets there.

72. Bleach, Vol. 17 - Tite Kubo
Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
Renji, Rukia's childhood friend, leaves Ichigo to finish training and runs to save Rukia himself, even if that means cutting down his captain to do it.

Thoughts:
The situation does look grim. Most of Rukia's would be saviors have been captured and detained and Ichigo is nowhere in sight. Renji's the focus here, as he tries to save his friend. He's stopped by Byakuka, and an epic battle takes place. We see two Ban Kai's here, which is enough to make me lean over in my seat excitedly. Battle thought equals blood. And there's a lot of it. Renji's blood. Now it looks even grimmer, because you know Ichigo is going to end up fighting Byakuka as well. It's recommended that you have a day off to read uninterrupted when you get this far in the books.

73. Bleach, Vol. 18 - Tite Kubo
Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
Rukia's execution has begun, and Ichigo is nowhere to be found. With Renji critically injured and the rest of the team too far away, the idea of a rescue grows dim.

Thoughts:
I have started to notice slight variances between the anime and manga. That's okay with me, because I’m able to understand some things better as I'm reading through these volumes. Civil war is breaking out! The Soul Society is in complete chaos, with half the Soul Reapers behind the execution and the other half trying to stop it. We've come a long way from Volume Eleven where the decision seemed to be unanimous. And we still don't know the details behind Azien's death and Ichimaru's sinister smile. You'd think the suspense couldn't get any higher, but then it does.

74. Bleach, Vol. 19 - Tite Kubo
Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
Disaster has been averted at the last instant by Ichigo. As Renji takes Rukia and runs, Ichigo begins the final showdown with Byakuka to battle against the rules of the Soul Society.

Thoughts:
If you've been following these books up to this point, you're going to love this novel. The battle that we've all been waiting for, for ten volumes is finally here. Ichigo comes at the last instant, saves Rukia and then begins the battle with Byakuka. This battle may eclipse all battles before it. And we do finally see Ichigo's Ban Kai, which a treat all in itself. Awesome artwork too. It does look like the drawings of Ichigo are maturing, as he matures. I don't know if that's purposeful or if Kubo's skill is just getting better, but either way I definitely like the look of the older Ichigo. I mentioned before that with Ichigo, it seems that he can win against all odds, but this volume does give you a little scare with a new terrifying twist. This is probably one of my favorite volumes so far in the series.

75. Bleach, Vol. 20 - Tite Kubo
Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
The person and reasons behind the collapse of the Soul Society are finally revealed.

Thoughts:
Talk about the mother of all plot twists. I could never have guessed the person behind everything when I first watched the anime. So knowing who it was, I paid attention this time as I read the manga to see if I could find clues. There were none. The twist hits you in the gut without you even having seen it coming. This is a huge page turner, with dozens of events explained. Comrades who are actually enemies, enemies who turn into comrades, hidden plots revealed. 76. Bleach, Vol. 21 - Tite Kubo
Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
In the aftermath of the events of the previous story arc, the Soul Soceity pieces back normalcy and Ichigo and his friends return to the real world and start a new school year. But already new problems arise when both Vizords and Arrancars arrive in Kurakura town.

Thoughts:
In the anime version, there was a whole different story arc placed between volume 20 and volume 21; the Bount saga. I'm glad it's not in the manga. Solely because it means we're already into the story arc that I'm so excited for. There was a terrifying twist in volume 19 that is killing for an explanation. Now, a new character appears and wants to recruit Ichigo. A character with both a Soul Reaper sword and a Hollow mask. The puzzlement deepens, and you can just tell this new evil that Ichigo has to face is going to be even worse than the past ones. Inner demons always are the worst. And the most exciting. The volume raises many questions and "omg what!?" moments. The next arc is sure to be even more intense.

Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
As Ichigo is worrying about the Vizords in town, two powerful Arrancars appear, intent on killing just one person.

Thoughts:
Here we learn more about Hollows and Azien's plan, and boy does it sound bad. And Ichigo is in no shape to deal with them at the moment, too caught up in his own inner struggle. The artwork is getting even better and the story already has me hooked after one volume. The dialogue is different between the anime and manga so I don't mind that I know what happens. I'm catching things I didn't pick up on before. Also the manga is a little more graphic, which helps explain some injuries. These definitely fall into the category that the books are better than the movies. Can't wait for more.

Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
A group of Arrancars, led by Grimmjow, travel to the real world, intent on killing anyone with a speck of spiritual powers.

Thoughts:
The beginning of this book focuses on comedy and character development, while the second half focuses on hardcore battles. There's a little bit of everything. And there's more than meets the eye for both Orihime and Ikkaku. There's some swearing and near nudity here too; it seems like the maturity of the books are increasing. Three books into this new story arc and already the battles are of edge of seat gripping style. Bring it on!

Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 200
Rating: 5 stars

Summary:
As the battles between the Soul Reapers and the Arrancars continues, the Soul Reapers find themselves hard pressed to defeat the enemy. And these are only the foot-soldiers compared to the ten Espada.

Thoughts:
First off, this is my favorite cover. Second, here is action galore. This book focuses on battles; many battles at once. Ichigo's struggle with himself deepens and he falls into even deeper depression. Everyone else is a little depressed too actually. Although, these battles were tough, and they weren't even the strongest Arrancars, so everyone's entitled to a little depression. Ichigo does, however, do something about it by the looks of it in the end of this volume. The only thing I don't like so far is that the Soul Reapers seem to know about the Hollow inside Ichigo. Logically, Byakuka could have mentioned it, but it's never explained how anyone else knows. Because I like drama, I would have preferred that no one knew until they saw it. Anyways, it's still a great story with lots of potential just waiting to happen.

Summary:
While Ichigo, Chad, and Uryuu are all training to attain new levels in their power, Azien's true intention are discovered.

Thoughts:
Most of this book is devoted to Ichigo battling his inner Hollow for control over his body. As he loses in his mind, his body becomes more Hollow-like. The artwork was great when depicting Ichigo's hollow. Also, Kubo does a good job of explaining the inner hollow's thoughts, so that this isn't just a simple good vs. evil story. It's another of my favorite volumes in the series.

Genre: Graphic Novel

Summary:
Everyone continues to train for the upcoming winter battle, but are surprised when Arrancars arrive much earlier than expected.

Thoughts:
The beginning of this book is about the character developments. Orihime's sense of inadequacy hits a high while Ichigo seems stronger and more relaxed. Chad and Uryuu have made progress too. There's plenty of comedy as well, which works well before the second half of the book which is full of more battles when the Arrancar arrive. Even with all the power the Soul Reapers have acquired, the battles against the Espada are tough. Then when it seems all is lost the Espada leave, so we'll never know if our heroes would have lost or not. I'd like to say they do, but things aren't looking so good. On to more, then.

On the way back from the Soul Society, Orihime is stopped by an Arrancar, who convinces her to return with him to Hueco Mundo, thus branding her a traitor in the Soul Society’s eyes.

Thoughts:
This is another big turning point in the novels. Orihime has been kidnapped, even though it looks like she went of her own free will and the Soul Society has forbidden a rescue mission. Ichigo is having none of it however, and ignores the commands and plans to leave himself. Orihime's feelings for Ichigo are outlined in this novel, finally, and you know there are going to be some spectacular fight scenes coming up. Still going strong.

Summary:
Ichigo, Chad and Uryuu have arrived in Hueco Mundo, intent on rescuing Orihime, but they must first get through the Tre Cifras, the land of the disgraced Arrancar, who think destroying Ichigo and his friends will redeem them.

Thoughts:
This is a lighter read than the previous one, probably so the overall story doesn't depress us too much. We are also introduced to three new characters, Nel Tu, an Arrancar, and her brothers. All we've seen so far are blood thirsty warrior Arrancars, so Nel was a nice change of scenery.
The big fight in this novel was between Ichigo and a disgraced Arrancar, who tries to get Ichigo to use his full power, prompting Ichigo to learn an important lesson. You can see some repetition here, as each character fights one enemy after another, but the Kubo's pace keeps you from getting too bored. There's always something that happens because of each battle, whether it's a lesson or a new power. :) I'm still going!

Thoughts:
Lots of fighting here, with occasional moments of comical conversations. Most of the fights are focused on Uryuu and Chad, so that they can develop some more. Chad probably talks more in this volume then he does in the rest of the books together. Not much to this one, besides action.

Thoughts:
Rukia has some big emotional issues that are yanked into the opening in this thirtieth volume. It's really heart wrenching actually. And Chad has been defeated! This is a depressing book, let me tell you. It has a few comical areas, but they are overshadowed by the misery in the rest of the volume. It seems like the series’ seriousness is being upgraded. Chad and Rukia are still out for the count, and Renji and Uryuu can't seem to even faze the scientist, while Ichigo comes close to death. Even Orihime is attacked by two jealous girls. Augh! Much more blood in this volume than in the previous. Renji and Uryuu are losing spectacularly, and Ichigo isn't doing any better against his new opponent. We learn a lot about Nel in this volume, with some of the story flashing back to years beforehand. It might be because it's the same thing over again, battling these Espada. (And maybe because it's past my bed time!) It was an epic fight but it's not my favorite volume. A centery before the current arc, many important events happened to cause the rift between the Soul Society, the Vizards, and Kiske Urahara.

Thoughts:
Looks like Kubo is taking a break from the current story arc. And right before the huge battle between Ichigo and Ulriquoria! But there's a lot of important facts in this volume. It takes us back a century to when Kiske and half the Vizards were captains, and shows us the events that lead up to how they are exiled. I skipped over this part in the anime because I was too impatient to get to Ichigo's fight, so this was all new to me. It was also great to see characters in the present arc as kids, joining the Soul Society and working hard to move up in the divisions. It explains some friendships that had no background before now. I thoroughly enjoyed this volume!

So of the problems I have with this first volume. The artwork. I may just be use to Tite Kubo;s art but I can't see to get into Kishimoto's. I've been assured that gets better as well too though. Another is that the character is so young. I don't read about young kids very often becasue they annoy me. :) And finally the plot is that exciting. However, since this is a manga series and the story is split into tons of books, I've decided to look at it as only having read the first twenty pages of a novel. Wow! Tonight, I was browsing manga, seeing what's popular and so forth and I came across this title. I thought I'd read a few pages into the first volume to see how it was, artwork-wise and general story, and boy am I glad I did. The artwork is great; detailed, entertaining, serious, etc. And the story, while maybe not greatly original, is suspensefully engaging. There's hinted romance, despair, and hope all over the place, with a strong female lead. Here's a series I'll definitely continue with.

114. The Crimson Spell, Vol. 1 - Ayano Yamane
Genre: Graphic Novel, Gay Fantasy
Pages: 192
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
In order to save his realm from monsters, Prince Val uses the cursed Crimson sword that has been passed down through his family. Using it however, puts a demon curse on him. In hope of breaking the curse, he goes to find an exiled sorcerer, Havi.

Thouhts:
First off, it's fantasy, and I love fantasy. Second, the artwork is great. These men are gorgeous, and the chibi scenes are perfect. Warning: there are some explicit sex scenes in this volume, and since it's manga, it's even more in your face. But there wasn't so much that I was bothered. It focuses on the story; the sex is just part of that story, instead of the other way around. Looking forward to more.

Genre: Graphic Novel, Gay Fantasy
Pages: 160

Summary:
As Val's inner demon becomes more powerful, Val's and Havi's relationship also becomes more complicated.

Thoughts:
I didn't like this volume as much as the previous one. It was too... weird, I guess. Val in a dress was too weird for me. The artwork is just as good as before, but the story that I liked from the first volume is lacking here. I may continue reading just to see what happens, but it's lost my enthusiasm.

Summary:
After Yuki and Zero are attacked by a Level E vampire in town, they find out more about the vampire society and class, and while Zero struggles with his cravings, his teacher enters the picture, and not for a friendly chat.

Thoughts:
The second volume is just as good as the first, with a tense atmosphere. The idea of a human struggling against the need for blood as their body transforms into vampire is not new by any measures, but Zero's struggle still finds a way into your heart nonetheless. Yuri's character is also developed, while still retaining her naiveté. The artwork is still great as well. Overall, I'm looking forward to more.

Summary:
Zero is given a job to take care of a Level E vampire to show him what he can become, while some vampires make nice with Yuki. The trouble doesn't begin though, until a new transfer vampire shows up at the academy.

Thoughts:
Hino is still making excellent artwork and an entertaining story. We see more of Kaname in this volume and Yuki as a child in Yuki's multiple flashbacks. Both Zero and Yuki continue to grow as characters, and we meet a few more vampires. There are a few vampire's in the academy that I'm mixing up, but it's not too bothersome, since they don't play huge roles yet. The end of the volume doesn't quite leave us with a cliffhanger, but it does make you want to pull the next book into your lap straightaway. Bring on more, please! :)

Summary:
Maria, the new transfer student is surprisingly familiar to Zero, and he warns Yuki to stay away. But Maria makes a bargain to Yuki that she can't say no too.

Thoughts:
There are more flashbacks in this volume, but from Zero's past this time, involving Maria. There's some drama and suspense here. It didn't quite have me on the edge of my seat but it did keep me seated throughout the whole volume. Artwork is still great, detailed and consistent, and the story is progressing nicely. I'll definitely be sticking with this one to see where it leads.

Summary:
Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke have fought deadly assassins, learned powerful skills and danced with death. Now they have to face the most terrifying challenge of all: exams.

Thoughts:
This volume I sort of enjoyed. I thought I wouldn't since there wasn't any action involved in taking an examination. I think it had to do with the development of each character. Everything that has happened so far, all adds up to this, has made them who they are that this point. Or something like that. :) Hope the next book, and second part of the exam is just as good.

We get more hints of Naurto's hidden power and Sakura finally shows us that she can fight powerfully as well. Everyone is growing, maturing, and that's what I like. I'm becoming intrigued, finally. Thoughts:
I decided there is one flaw with these books. All the vampires look alike and I'm having trouble distinguishing one from the other, besides Kaname and Zero and men from women. But other than that, it's still going strong. I believe I'm halfway through the series at this point. I want to finish to find out what happens but at the same time I don't want to be done so fast. This volume focuses on Sasuke's wound and what it entails and Naurto's suddenly increased power and endurance. It also gives us a new twist to chew on. The artwork hasn't really changed all that much, but I've grown used to it and Naurto's immaturity doesn't bother me all that much anymore either. The books really do grow on you. And they're getting good enough now that I'm sure I'll continue reading them. Perhaps not with the vigor I can read other material, but nonetheless, I'm sure I'll be glad I got them under my belt.

Sasuke's battle didn't last very long, because Kishimoto gives us a new twist. Suddenly everything is much more serious, and we're left with a cliffhanger. Sometimes, I have a hard time figuring out what's happening in battles, but for the most part the art is very good at portraying what is happening. I think it's gotten more detailed too. Thoughts:
Some of the things in this series are silly, but for the most part I'm really enjoying it. I love the way we know Kurosaki is Daisy but Teru doesn't. It gives us a lot of dramatic irony to laugh over. And the artwork is really good, expressive most of the time but very detailed those times it's not. (Ignore the cover art. 157. Strawberry Panic, Vol. 1 - Sakurako Kimino
Genre: Graphic Novel, Gay Fiction
Pages: 192
Rating: 4 Stars

Summary:
Nagisa, a cheerful high school student, is stunned when she meets Shizuma, the school’s top student. When Shizuma reciprocates Nagisa’s feelings, both love and chaos erupt.

Thoughts:
The beginning of this series isn't phenomenal, but I liked it, partly because it was yuri - women x women romance - which isn't portrayed very often, and because it has an interesting story with over-the-top plotlines.

Thoughts:
The second part of the series has more over the top events, but it was still as good as the first volume. This is the last volume released however so this is it for the time being.

Things come to a head when Teru finally learns more about her brother's death, and Kurosaki hears of something that will bring his past blazing forth.

Thoughts:
I've been reading this volume's chapters as they come out, and so only now is volume eight out. THe volume mostly focuses on Teru - and us - learning about Kurosaki's past. Finally. The mystery is revealed. Still as good as before. Nothing has changed there. :)

175. Naruto, Vol. 28 - Masashi Kishimoto
Genre: Graphic Novel, Epic Fantasy

Rating: 4 Stars

Summary:
It's been two years since Naruto left to train with Jiraiya. Now he's back but when one of them is kidnapped Naruto knows it's time to prove he's got the talent now to save them.

Thoughts:
This volume was enjoyable. It's been awhile since I've read the previous volume but there was nothing I didn't remember or understand. It hasn't been too long and Naruto is not someone you forget easily. I'm thrilled that the characters have finally grown up some. It was important for the reader's to follow what happened when they were younger, to show how they got here and why but I think for me at least, it will be a little easier to get through these now. The character's were too young and immature for me before to really relate to them. I'm definetly interested in the next volume and what happens as Naruto and Co. go to save Gaara.

Genre: Graphic Novel, Epic Fantasy

Rating: 4 Stars

Summary:
Naruto's teacher and Sasuke's brother face each other down, and Naruto and Gaara learn more about their common enemy.

Thoughts:
There was only one battle in this volume that I was interested in; Naruto's. :) They haven't reached Gaara yet so mostly the volume was their journey towards him and the delays they face. It allowed Kakashi to reiterate to a new character - and thus us - why Naruto feels so strongly towards Gaara. Naruto is still hasty, still himself but you can see he's matured. Yay! Looking forward to more.

Summary:
Sakura takes her place at the front of the battle. With Granny Chiyo she must batte Sasori, who can create golems from the undead.

Thoughts:
There's lots of action in this one, beacuse our fighters have reached Gaara. But his body is stolen away so when Naruto goes after him, Sakura stays behind to battle Sasori, a puppet master. I enjoyed seeing how much more powerful and smart Sakura has become.

Summary:
Sakura finishes her battle with Sasori while Naruto and Kakashi face off the villain with Gaara's body.

Thoughts:
There's battle here, and angst, and cool new techniques, and sacrifice. Any of those will make for a great volume and this one has all four. I liked Gaara so I’m glad that front worked out. Sometimes I still wish these graphic novels were in novel format, or in a good anime format (I can't bring myself to watch the anime.) but I will take what I can get I guess. I am very interested in finishing this series, more so now than before. :)

Summary:
A new ninja causes trouble among the ranks of Team Kakashi when they return from the battle against Sasori, and it's made worse when he's teamed up with Naruto and Sakura on their mission to find Sasuke.

Thoughts:
We saw most of the old characters in volume 28, but here we meet the rest of them. It's nice to see how much everyone has grown up and changed. I love watching characters grow so it's a treat to see them all now. Sai is interesting. I don't like him, but I'm sure he will be explained soon. I'm looking forward to Naruto and Sakura finding Sasuke. So on to more. :)

Summary:
Orochimaru triggers a frightening change in Naruto as he reveals a sinister plot that's been the death of far more people than anyone knew.

Thoughts:
This volume was intense, focusing on Naruto and his morphing into the Nine-Taxed fox, or close enough. Which is what I've have been waiting for more of. And it looks like Sai has evil intentions like it seemed after all. It was mostly action, so I'm sure the next volume will explain more. Looking forward to it and more Naruto.

Summary:
Naruto finally finds Sasuke, but Sasuke's not going to return to Konoha without a fight.

Thoughts:
Ack! Sasuke's got issues. But it makes for good suspense and angst. Sai comes out on the good side with is nice. I didn't mind the lack of much action here because it centered on the big plotline - Naruto trying to save Sasuke and Sasuke not wanting to be saved. Well it turns out Sasuke is crazy powerful now, so it looks like Naruto and Sakura are off to train some more. They've got six months left. And that's my cue to read more.

Summary:
Charley, a cyborg vampire who does the Vatican's dirty work, is the thrall of the local vampire playboy Johnny Rayflo. As the two of them fight crime - and each other - hilarity, violence and sacrilege ensue!

Thoughts:
Well, I read a few pages of this manga a few months back and then stopped because it didn't really make sense and was a little too weird for me. But I was thinking about it again this morning so I decided to give it another try. I could just be in a different mood today but I'm enjoying it this time around. There's nothing serious here, but it's an enjoyable read about too men who can't show how much they care about each other. The art work is wonderful, one of the reasons I tried it earlier. There is blood and gore, beware. But there are cute parts, sexy parts, and parts that made me smile. And the chibi images are delightful and right where they need to be. Again, this is not a manga that has a lot of meat to it, so far as I can tell, and the plot is a little all over the place, but I'm hooked. I like the characters and I'm interested in getting to know them more fully.

Either way, I probably wont buy these books but if any more come out I'm sure I'll be reading them. The interaction bewteen Charley and Rayflo and the action and weirdness of it all is intriguing to keep me hooked.

Summary:
As Naruto trains more to get even stronger, more battles and differences come up making everyone strive to get stronger and protect Konha. Still intent on finding Sasuke and stopping him, Naruto battles through each one, growing more and more each time.

Thoughts:
These last twenty or so volumes were a treat to read. Naruto has really grown and then he continues to grow, not only physically but now also mentally. He's faced with psychological challenges and has to find which morals and values he stands behind and why. I really really enjoyed his physical achievements but I can just see these psychological changes playing a huge role later on. And it's not just Naruto that grows; everyone does, even the villains. I've finished what's currently out so now I'm going to have to read them as they come out. Which I can assure I will be doing. Somehow these books have turned out as a spectacularly gratifying read. I recommend them to anyone who reads Graphic Novels or Epic Fantasy or both, with a added note to get past the first ten or so volumes and watch it be worth it. It is a LOT of volumes, but again, well worth the reads. :)

214. Bleach, Vol. 52 - Tite Kubo
Genre: Graphic Novel, Epic Fantasy
Pages: 192
Rating: 5 Stars

Summary:
With the help of Ginjō, Ichigo completely develops his fullbringer powers. But then Ishida, healed enough to move, arrives with surprising news.

Thoughts:
I really like how these books are turning out. I was worried Kubo wouldn't be able to top her previous arc with Azien, but it looks like she is well on her way to proving me wrong. Ichigo has just finished completing his fullbringer training and now it seems the real action is here. This volume had another huge cliffhanger, probably one of the biggest cliffhangers I've seen in the series. Luckily I'm reading these online now, since they aren't currently out in English, so I only had to wait a week. But it was one LONG week, let me tell you. I highly recommend that you read volume 52 and 53 together in one go. There definitely seems to be more intrigue in this arc, and more bite-you-in-ass twists. I can gush about Bleach all day. The day I started reading these was a happy day :)

Summary:
With his Soul Reapers powers back, Ichigo and several members of the Gotei 13 begin to fight the members of Xcution, who had their Fullbrings enhanced by Ichigo's stolen powers.

Thoughts:
We get to see some past characters again! And because it's been two years since Ichigo has seen them, they look a little different. I definitely like the new looks. :) And they're here to help Ichigo. Kubo's artwork has been increasing its awesome-ness throughout the series, and I absolutely love it now. It's probably just because I've watched it progress, watched Ichigo progress from a sixteen year old kid into maturity. As Ichigo grows, so does the artwork. This volume at least didn't end in a huge cliffhanger, but I'm still dying for more. This whole series is definitely on my list to buy. That's a lot of money, but I must have them on my shelves, because I'm sure I'll be coming back to them multiple times.

Rating: 4 Stars

Summary:
A Claymore travels from village to village to destroy Yoma, monsters who disguise themselves as humans. There are seen as monsters themselves, but in one village there's one boy who sees a woman instead.

Thoughts:
I like anything medieval with swords and warriors. Claymore is definitely this with a fantasy twist. The art isn't all that in my opinion, but every artist is different and I've heard that it gets better (mostly it does the more the artist draws). It's not bad enough that I can't get through it to the story. There's lots of sword fighting and blood and some nudity. but it's not overly gory or explicit yet. I'm sure I'll be reading more of this series soon.

Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to rid the world of evil. When hundreds of criminals begin to drop dead, the authorities send Detective L to track down the killer.

Thoughts:
I'm not sure what to make out of this book. Light seems contradictory. He says he is killing off violent criminals to make the world a better place and that it's right thing to do. That is a world where the wicked die, everyone will be good. But is murder the righteous thing to do? I think this series will be all about that. It's intriguing. I'm puzzled with Light at the moment. I don't particularly like him, but at the same time I want to know more. I'm not really sure who I'm rooting for yet, Detective L or Light. Weird, and a bit unnerving. I'll be reading more, simply for the sake of finding out more.

218. Berserk, Vol 1 - Kentaro Miura
Genre: Graphic Novel, High Fantasy
Pages: 224
Rating: 4 Stars

Summary:
Guts is a man who wants vengeance, hunted by demons, and looking to bring the demon governor of a village to a brutal and gory end. He is joined by Puck, a fairy that likes to talk.

Thoughts:
I'm going to add my warning here in the very beginning. This is not a graphic novel series for a young/teenage audience. The violence in this one is much more central and graphic/gory. Nothing is left to the imagination and some panels add to your list of "oh my god, I never want see anyone die that way for real!" It's very explicit and very graphic. That being said, I enjoyed the story. Guts is not your typical "hero". He only really looks after himself. His story is a depressing one. All I've gotten so far is that he's seeking revenge or vengeance for something or another. But there are hints here that show promise of a deep storyline. Puck is the comical relief. I always liked the combination of the caring klutzy sidekick with the glowering loner, and that's definitely the combination here. Again, for a mature and un-squeamish audience.

Thoughts:
These's last five volumes have been great. It feels like they are all connected which is why I've read through all five without really stopping to review each one individually. I love that Miura has taken us into Gutt's past. He's a big mystery and only now are we seeing those events that shaped him into who he is in the present. It seems to be coming to a head, and soon. I love Casca and the fact that we are learning more about her as well. Again, these volumes are not for the faint of heart, or someone looking for a light entertaining read. These volumes go deeper. I'm looking forward to more. :)

Summary:
Gutts, known as the Black Swordsman, seeks vengeance against the man who betrayed and branded him as sacrifice and sent his lover insane. Aided only by his titanic strength, skill and sword, Gutts struggles against his bleak destiny and a rage that might strip him of his humanity.

Thoughts:
I can't get enough of Berserk. At first, in the first three or four volumes it was mostly really good artwork and battle scenes, but then Miura took us back into Gutts past to show us why he is the way he is and what he's fighting for and it went from entertaining to "oh my god, I'm not going to take my eyes off the computer screen until I've finished this series." (I read my manga online) If I didn't have to sleep, eat and work, I probably would have sat in my chair and read these all the way through. The artwork is simply fantastic; very detailed (down to the individual ties in the armor) and fairly realistic as well; to a point where I need to put a warning. It's realistic and it's explicit. And Miura doesn't shy away from the sex scenes just because these are graphic novels. The artwork itself could keep me reading, but Miura doesn't just give you that. She's given you a story full of fantastical elements and monsters, betrayal, love that hurts, war... It's a dark story, darker than most I've read. Definitely the darkest graphic novel I've read. And Gutts is not your average hero in shining armor. He's a survivor. Okay, now... the last two or three volumes seem to have gone downhill. I think too much time was spent on the pirates. The series itself has been in the making for close to twenty years now. ( o.0 ) And there's so much left that needs to be resolved that I'm starting to get anxious. But even with that bump in the road, I still love it. The awesomeness simply devours the small wincing moments. As soon as I have sufficient funds saved up I will be buying this whole series.
Highly recommended for an adult audience.

Summary:
In a medieval world, villages are being attacked by the yoma, demons that can take on the appearance of their victim. The only people who can stop them are the Claymore, a group of young women named for the swords they use. They are half-human, half-demons who, most unwilling, became Claymore. But there is more about them then even they realize. And it could destroy them when they find out.

Thoughts:
I was unsure about starting this series at first. The first volume was interesting enough but it was phenomenal. But I've come to realize with these manga series that it sometimes takes a few volumes to really engross you in the story. So it was with this series and I'm glad I read past the second volume because it took a huge turn for the better. The deep plotline emerged fairly quickly but in pieces so as to keep you wondering and coming back for more, and the artwork seemed to get better. After volume two or three I was either used to the style or it really did get better. And by volume 10 I'm loving it. The story has gone deeper. It's not just a story about action but of comradeship and betrayal and persistence and tragedy. Yagi had me at the sword fighting and demons but now I'm hooked into the story and I don't think it's going to let me go until it's finished. I'm certainly not complaining; I'm enjoying the series immensely. Recommended for fantasy and/or graphic novel fans.

Summary:
Ms. Aoshika, an underappreciated teacher, witnesses one night the brutal assault and murder of a young man. But, after fainting, she awakens to discover that all of the assailants have been seriously wounded. And the next day the young man shows up at her school, alive with not a scratch on him. Because Akira is a werewolf, perhaps the last one of his kind.

Thoughts:
I found this manga by accident but the artwork on the first two pages sucked me in and I fell in love with Akira straight away. This is a rather dark story, with explicit artwork to go with it, so no one under 18. Akira's lonieness strikes a deep chord but I wish the authors would have spent more on Akira's falling in love. It was realistic, I just wished it was explained more. But perhaps in later volumes? It looks like it's been a few months since it has been updated so hopefully a new scan or even better the next volume. Again, please, no one under 18 should read this. There's is a lot of dark material here. Looking forward to more.

Summary:
In the year 2100 A.D., humans have developed a virtual reality game. Feng Lan, due to a bet with her twin brother, vows to beat the game without using her "female benefits." So she becomes the first female to play as a male character in "Second Life." As she rises in fame as a blood thirsty warrior, can she keep her identity a secret from her real life acquaintances?

Thoughts:
Okay so this story is mostly for entertainment more than anything. I've played my fair share of video games so the summary caught my eye as I was scrolling through popular fantasy manga. Well I'm glad I did, for the most basic reason as laughing my ass off as I read through these nine volumes. I could also appreciate the gamer terms Wo uses; I even learned a few more. The artwork is great too. Not realistic as these are portrayed as gaming characters, but very nice on the eyes when the artist does her serious panels. The whole series has an air of fluff and humor, but nonetheless I liked it immensely. And if you look closely, there is a deep plotline emerging. :) Read if you’re a fan of manga and would like to laugh.

Summary:
Two years ago, Aoyagi Ritsuka mysteriously lost his memory and developed an alternate personality. His mother constantly berates and beats him, asking what happened to the real Ritsuka, and his only defender and friend, his older brother Seimei, is killed. Then, Seimei s apparent friend, Soubi, appears. Soubi tells Ritsuka s true name is Loveless, and that Soubi was assigned by Seimei to take care and protect him. Thus Ritsuka is sucked into a bizarre underground society where teams of people battle using elaborately phrased spells.

Thoughts:
This is another series that I've been told is good. I looked at it a few months ago but was weirded out by the cat ears on the characters. But I decided to read in a few pages just to check and once the ears were explained, I actually kind of liked the idea. :) So I decided to give it a try. It was not what I was expecting. From what I can get out of the story, it's unique and interesting, but the problem is that it's too confusing. I can hardly make any sense out of it. I feel like I'm accidently skipping pages or parts of the dialogue as I read. I even compared online scanlations to the book my sister has on her bookshelf and while the US book's expressions made a little more sense, I was still confused by what's happening in the story. I might just not be getting it, but the more I read, the more I get frustrated. So I've decided to stop and move on to something else, rather than struggle through it. :( Maybe I'll try again in a few years and see if I can get more out of it.

Summary:
Kei Kurono dies in a train accident and becomes part of a semi-posthumous "game" in which he and several other recently deceased people are forced to hunt down and kill aliens. What happens when they die again? What happens if they live?

Thoughts:
Okay... this was a bit weird. The story is unique but I can't say I enjoyed it. It was just... weird :( I can't think of any other way to put it. All the same however, it does pull you in. I kept reading for three volumes because I had a urge to see what happened. But I'm not really enjoying it at the same time. That doesn't make sense I know, and it's confusing me too so I decided I'd stop at volume three and move on to something else. :)

this might sound a stupid question - do you consider these graphic arts a manga drawing?

Summary:
Tatsumi is temperamental and quick to use his fists and is a raging homophobia. Morinaga, Tatsumi's best friend, a cheerful and outgoing person, is gay. And he's had a crush on Tatsumi for five years. He bears the brunt of Tatsumi's temper and abuse, but isn't above manipulation to get what he wants.

Thoughts:
These volume's were interstingly entertaining. How does a writer get around to getting two characters’ together when one is gay and the other hates and fears gays? Takanaga did it with alcohol and drugs, an old trick in the book, but in this scenario, Tatsumi is anything but okay with it. It was more rape than anything. Tatsumi flips out, obviously, and Morinaga disappears in guilt. I won’t spell out the story but Morinaga comes back, the two fight and then reach a compromise. What I liked about the story was watching Tatsumi and knowing that he's in huge self denial. He wouldn't have agreed to sleep with Morinaga if there wasn't a small part of him that enjoyed it in my opinion. Now he only needs to come to that conclusion himself. Morinaga is willing to be a villain to get what he wants; I'm not sure what to make of him. He's very manipulative but at the same time he has a sort of innocence to him as well. X-rated, and only for those over 18, but otherwise, enjoy. Overall I enjoyed reading these volumes and will most likely continue on with the series.
