Am I the only one who suddenly got switched back to the old style?

It happened to me too. For some reason it gave me a moment of terror when it happened. It was so bright.

Looks like I'm back to chocolate-covered cherries now. Whoo, time travel!

I'm asking @ConceptDawg. I fear this is related to something he was asking me about--a sort of "What does this red button do?" question.

I've bounced back and forth between old and new a couple of times now.

Yeah. @ConceptDawg is on it. A blast from the past. Pleasant in some ways, not in others.

I'm on the case. Just have to figure out a good way to subtract 1 from 1 without getting 0.

That's starting to sound like one of those Millennium Prize problems.

Ha! things sure are freaky around here tonight! I had a glass of wine (rarely do these days) and was starting to think it was the booze addling my mind!

The salmon was a bit of a shock, but it's my non-scrolling header bar that I'm really missing. Went to click on it and suddenly it wasn't there.

After reloading your home page, are any of you still seeing the old design?

13brightcopy
Feb 28, 2014, 12:32 am

It's not the salmon that catches my eye as much as the blue.

14jules_l
Feb 28, 2014, 12:33 am

I'm back to the chocolate bar now.

>12 conceptDawg:
More importantly, are there any people that are using the old design that were flipped to the new one and it has stayed that way?

If so, don't get all a' tizzy. We're not forcing you to the new design...yet. It's just a correction in code of some member preference data and it caused the site cache to be a little out of sync. If you can't get back to the old design, let us know and we'll make it happen.

Tried signing out and back in. Still new.

#15: Yes, me. I really despise the new design!

>15 conceptDawg:: Me too. I hope it will be long time before I'm "forced" to use the new design...

Edit: Thanks!

Try this link to select old design
or
Try this link to select new design

And let me know if those work for you.

Yes! What a relief!

For others, that gave me a blank page, but opening a new tab gave me back the old colours. (I didn't try the second link.)

But not for long. I've fixed it again. Let's see if it sticks this time.

21anglemark
Feb 28, 2014, 3:44 am

Using the second link gave me a blank page, reloading the page restored the new skin/design.

22MarthaJeanne
Feb 28, 2014, 3:44 am

It doesn't hold for long. I'll finish what I came in to do and try again later.

23conceptDawg
Feb 28, 2014, 4:08 am

Ok. I'm still looking at why the setting isn't holding.

My dashboard just reverted to the old design, but switched back over to the new one when I hit refresh.

Not complaining, mind you; I know you're on top of things. Just FYI.

Also, my default book cover was changed, to this cover image.

>24 Petroglyph:
Yep, I was still on the case. Thanks for the information.
I'm pretty sure I've solved it though. So hopefully all is good.

If you see the problem again, let me know. Otherwise I'm going to file it under "solved."

26MarthaJeanne
Feb 28, 2014, 5:00 am

Seems OK now.

I had to reset hiding physical whatever.

Cover page won't load, but I only try that very rarely. My cover images and default cover are fine.

It's changing between salmon and chocolate all the time, back and forth.

Reminds me of the old joke:

Two old men and a young woman are sitting in a train compartment. The window is half open. One of the old men gets up and closes it, saying "I need the window closed, otherwise I'll catch pneumonia and die."

The other old man gets up and re-opens the window, saying "I need it open, otherwise I'll die from suffocation."

The first man gets up again and closes it. The second man gets up again and opens it.

The young woman: "Why don't we leave it open first for half an hour, and then close it and leave it closed, so I will get rid of the both of you?"

28anglemark
Feb 28, 2014, 5:04 am

OK, maybe it stabilised now while I wrote that joke down.

While you're thinking about it, any chance of getting the option for people still on the old design to switch to the new? I know many of them won't want to, but some probably will, and currently there's no way for them to do so.

30conceptDawg
Feb 28, 2014, 10:26 am

>29 lorax:
Look up at my previous messages >19 conceptDawg:
There are links there to switch between the designs. The links aren't "pretty" ones designed for human consumption. You'll have to manually go back to LT after hitting them. (they just look like an empty page).

31brightcopy
Feb 28, 2014, 10:41 am

>30 conceptDawg: I think lorax was specifically suggesting you make a non-hidden way to do it for the uses who don't read every Talk about LibraryThing thread. Previously, the hidden way to change it was just to PM a staff member. This isn't really any less hidden. But it's a step towards that, of course. I imagine that's where you're going with this.

32conceptDawg
Feb 28, 2014, 10:45 am

If I had my way everybody would be forced to the new design so that we can stop wasting valuable developer bandwidth supporting the old one. But that's not happening right now. We'll see about providing better links. Maybe in the Edit Profile section. Not sure.

Except even if people want to change to the new design, there's nowhere for them to do so without contacting staff. Not just reverting back.

>32 conceptDawg: If I had my way, Tim would have gotten you folks to finish off the Add Books overhaul years ago rather than spending time on so many project that add a trivial amount of value to the site. Guess it's not "get what you want" day today. ;)

Chris has mostly not been working on LT.com at all. So it's not a question of allocating him to different LT projects.

That said, expect an announcement about at least one new LT.com programmer soon.

>35 timspalding: I didn't just mean this current feature or even Chris specifically. It was just a general rant over the direction of the site for years now. I figure as long as he's ranting I'll add one of my own. ;)

And I'm hoping to get back to some LT.com projects in the near future too. Fingers crossed.
