romance maybe classical/historical

the hero and heroine are friends. the heroine is plain looking but has a good voice. at a party the hero hears her sing and falls in love with her and proposes. she remembers him saying that no one would like to face a ugly person every morning for breakfast for the rest of their lives or something like that, so she rejects his proposal even though she loves him...later on due to something the hero becomes blind and she comes to nurse him... arranging through mutual friend that she is mute so she doesnt have to speak to the hero. but the hero doubts and i think after regaining his eyesight finds her and its happily ever after
pls help me find this book ...it has been over 20years that i have read it ... and i think that it might be a classical novel

This doesn't appear to have yours on it, but I thought it was interesting. Looking by "plain heroine" gives lots of curent lists on Amazon, so was less helpful.

Thx for trying....it is not be on any current books site. I think it may have been written a long time ago...like maybe eluzabeth caskell time or maybe thereabouts.... our english teacher read it to us in grade 10....so it may be literary book .... there was a shorter version she read in class and we were free to borrow the full version from her. Any idea where i can search for older books?

Worldcat.org or Google Books are my search methods of choice. Both can easily be restricted to searching within your time frame. I especially favor using Google Books if I can remember a quote or partial quote from the missing book.

This sounds like The Rosary by Florence Barclay. The hero is an artist and loves beauty, the heroine an ordinary girl who is "just one of the guys". They are at a house party and the heroine fills in for the missing singer. The hero suddenly realizes that he's in love with the heroine. He proposes, she rejects him, they part and both feel terrible. He has an accident that blinds him and she comes to nurse him, trying to hide her identity from him.

I hope someone can tell me the name of this book: it's about a man (I think he's Scottish) and he is cursed to be invisible, like a ghost, and a woman (I think she's American) moves into where he lives and he has to get her to love him for him to be free from the curse. I think he was cursed because he thought he was God's gift to women, or something like that. Sound familiar to anyone?

That said, the one romance book that I know of with the hero as a ghost is Everlastin' by Mickee Madden.
I kept it mostly for the holographic cover which has him appearing/disappearing. It's a great cover! But one you'd be likely to remember.

It sounds very much like The Ghost and Mrs. Muir by R.A. Dick, but I can't remember the nationalities of the main characters.
