There was a teenage girl who was unhappy with her current life. She did have parents as far as I remember, at least a mother. She somehow met an older lady who was quite wealthy and needed a younger girl around, I vaguely remember something about the older woman having a lost daughter. So the girl goes to live with the older woman essentially as her daughter (she may have been impersonating the other girl/changed her identity?) and has a great time over the summer. The main characters name may or may not have been Allison. Sorry I don't remember anything more.

I read this book in the late 90's in Wisconsin and I don't remember it as a new release, I was clearly not the first person to read my copy. It was a YA novel. I checked it out from the library, it was a hardcover with a dust jacket. The image on the front depicted the main character's face (well portrait image, head and shoulders), but her face was split in two. One half was from her old life and the other was from the new life she lead after moving in with the older woman. On the "new" side, she wearing a green dress and possibly green earrings. She was white and I remember her hair as being dark blonde, maybe light brown. I don't remember what was behind her, but her portrait took up most of the cover.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
