Boy Protagonist
I read it somewhere between 2000-2006. I think it must have been written in that time frame.
What I remember about the book:
1) It began with the boy protagonist taking his girlfriend to the woods near his home.
2) He liked the woods and seem to have some connection to them.
3) He and his mom were moving the next day.
4) When he awoke the next day the girl had disappeared.
Fuzzy details I'm not sure about:
1) It was only the boy and his mom I'm not sure but I think his mom never told him what happened to his dad.
2) I think that, after moving, he found and old ring from his father that may or might not be magical.
3) I don't recall it having resolved most of the problems so it's likely that it has one or various sequels.

FOUND IT! It was Witch Boy by Russell Moon!
God, I don't even know how many summaries I have read trying to find it. I don't even remember what happens in the book but I was always wondering if he killed the girlfriend.
I hope she lives or I'll be very disappointed!
