Hi Guys! I'm new to Library Thing, and this is the first group I joined - it made sense considering I'm an author. My name is Astrid Tallaksen, and I'm an urban fantasy/paranormal romance author (who'll probably branch out when I'm finished with my current series). I hail from North Alabama, originally from northern Illinois. My very first book ever, At Death's Door, was released back in August, and its sequel comes out next month (oh my god I'm not ready yet!!!). I'm still learning about the publishing process.
Here's the blurb for At Death's Door (Freefall #1):
***
The world is a pretty straightforward place. Even for medium Sara Stone things seem pretty simple, aside from the whole talking to spirits bit. But when the spirits get too hard to handle and Sara ends up admitted to a mental hospital, the world starts to seem a lot less straightforward. First her family disappears, including her four year old son. Then she gets the sneaking suspicion that not only are the staff at the mental hospital somehow connected, but they also have no intention of ever letting her leave the hospital.
Everything changes when Sara has her first visitor in three months. Daniel is handsome, friendly, and a complete stranger. When he promises to spring her from the hospital and swears that everything she's experienced is completely real, Sara has no choice but to believe him. But once she reaches a run-down Victorian house in the tiny Alabama town her rescuer calls home, the last thing she expects to discover is that every memory she has is a lie.
Daniel reveals a world filled with angels, demons, and an impending war humans know nothing about. Sara wants to ignore her role in the whole mess – all that matters is solving the mystery of where her son has gone. But the forces of Heaven, Hell, and the Heart have other plans for her. Can she find her child before the world comes crashing down?

As for who I am and what I love:
-I'm the mom of the most awesome child ever. He has autism, is super-smart, and is probably the most compassionate person I've ever met. I like to think I rubbed off on him.
-I've been writing for as long as I can remember, first just whatever came out of my crazy brain and onto the page, then on a roleplay forum (which is actually more a creative writing workshop), and now finally as a published author. Quite an intimidating journey!
-My hobbies include karaoke (although I don't go out as much anymore), reading anything I can get my hands on - especially fantasy and historical romance - crochet, and binge watching shows on Netflix.
-I'm currently back in school to get my degree in English, both to improve my writing and with the ultimate goal of being a freelance editor and perhaps a tech/proposal writer - there are a ton of jobs like that available in my town.
-I'm married, and have 2 dogs (Harley, a blue heeler mix, and Muffin, a grouchy old lady and pekingese cocker mix), and 2 cats (Fugue and Rhapsody, both fat and needy.
-I'm super geeky. I love comics, sci-fi/fantasy movies and television shows (Doctor Who, Supernatural, and Lost Girl are my favorites), and I volunteer at Dragoncon (a HUGE multi-genre sci-fi/fantasy convention that takes place every year in Atlanta) both on technical operations staff and guest operations staff.
Did I miss anything? I'm glad to be here and look forward to getting to know and interact with you all.
Best Wishes,
Astrid V. Tallaksen

I'm Charlene and I'm new to LibraryThing. I've recently plunged into the wonderful world of self publishing and I've written one fiction (crime fiction/courtroom drama) and one nonfiction book anonymously as Kobrinica Press.
About me - Born and live in Southern California. I work in the legal field which occupies most of my time. I love my job, so I know I'll never be a full time writer, although ironically it's what I do at work. I'm a do-it-yourselfer and I like to build things. I also love to travel with my children and watch them play on their school and club sports teams.
I would love to learn and gain insight from the other authors in this group, and although I'm very new to this, hopefully I have some knowledge, insight or experience that can be useful to others as well.

Hi everyone my name is Kerryn and I'm a writer. I LOVE all things epic and dark fantasy the richer the world and characters the better for me to lose myself in.
A Bit About Me
I'm 28 with 3 young girls (1.5, 3 & 5) glutton for punishment, I know. I started writing poetry when I was very young and began my epic fantasy masterpiece when I was 16. Unfortunately for many years I was too busy pumping out babies to write (I hit a pretty big wall, hard and for a long time the words just wouldn't come) so my manuscript is incomplete. I'm putting that piece aside for now and working on developing my skills through a fantasy, horror and Sci-fi writing course and by pumping out as many short stories as I can.
So far I've submitted 3 written assessments receiving 2 distinctions and a credit, yay!! I'm loving the course but must confess I could be more committed.
While I have many, many great authors that inspire me I would have to say that Isobelle Carmody's Obernewtyn Chronicles are my all time favourite and treasured books. I find myself constantly rereading them and each time that I do my appreciation for the richness and depth of her works awakens my inner muse and makes me feel a deep urge to fulfil my life's works, yes works, one of my problems is I have several stories and novels in progress at the same time, all at various stages of their development. Every time I try to focus on just one I'll have an amazing idea that fits one of the novels I'm not supposed to be working on.
I'll get there though, one day lol. I could talk all day about my inspirations, writing process, hurdles I've faced, the novels and short stories I'm working on but I won't. I still have a lot to learn but am proud to call myself a weaver of fantasy and builder of worlds. Not trying to blow my own horn but I'm not afraid to say I have talent, all I need to do is hone my skills and focus on my work and one day I'll see my name gracing the cover of my very own published novel.
