This morning I created a new invitation-only, join-to-post group. As of this moment I am the only member. The link to "Post a new topic" is missing from the group page. I am able to post to the group, but only by choosing that link from another group and selecting the group in question from the drop-down. I don't know whether this is due to the group being new, it being invitation-only, or both. I did not encounter this problem in the previous group I created which was open to all.

Link to the group in question:

(As a side note, this group would have been an ideal test case for the "group TOS" that Tim proposed a couple months ago. As is, I'm going to have to carefully screen requests for invitations to judge whether or not I think they're in good faith.)

>1 lorax: Do you have to join in order to post a new topic? I noticed that other join to post groups don't have the link.

Yes, you need to join in order to post a new topic, but I am a member, and can post via the dropdown. It's not that I'm unable to post.

I admit I was curious, when I read the description of the group. I've enjoyed LolaWalser's discussions about "would you give this book to a child" so much, and I was curious about what might go on in your group. Then I noticed something particularly odd about it (it may be related to not being able to post a topic).

Here in Bug Collectors, when I look at the top of the page, it shows me:

736 members
74,814 messages

Your group shows:

1 member
0 messages

There are obviously two messages, both readable. Something is certainly broken.

Bump.

The other member of this group reports the same issue. I am reluctant to invite more members while this ridiculous workaround is required to be able to post.

>5 lorax: I was able to start a new thread by being in a previous thread in the group and using the "Post a new topic" on the left sidebar. The private group was the default in the drop down.

That seems an easier work-around, though the bug needs fixed.

Thanks. That obviously wasn't an option for me creating the original thread, so I'll confess I kept using my original workaround.

Bug still needs to be fixed, though.

lorax: go in and edit your group. right now under "Forum" it seems to have "Include a group discussion forum?" set to no. if that is set to yes i think it should work.

Thanks, that seems to have fixed it.
