So I purchased a copy of this book at a second hand store and was surprised to find how much it is worth. Why is this book worth so much more than her other works?
Cheers,
Jacob.

The price of a second-hand book depends on so many factors: scarcity, how popular the work is, the specific binding. Is it in good condition with a dust jacket in good condition?
3Jacob_H
No unfortunately there is no dust jacket and it seems as though the copyright/publisher page is missing.

It seems unbelievably rare, so I guess it's worth quite a bit despite that. Normally that sort of defect and no dust jacket means it's not worth much.

Fascinating! I am often amazed by the prices asked* for s/h books. On abebooks.co.uk there are two copies on offer - a first edition hard back without d/w from New Zealand for £600 and a poor condition paper back, creased, and with a detached back cover for £350. Is it too indelicate to ask how much you paid for it?
*Of course they are an uncertain measure of "worth" ;-)

I picked it up for $4 Australian. Bought a whole pile of 2nd hand books that day and hadn't given it a second thought until now. Has an old library sticker in the front cover. To be honest it was just by chance that I read something the week previous while browsing through a list of 'rare' books and the title rang a bell. Bought it just in case. Seems as though it was worth it!

There are still lots of Elizabeth Cadell fans out there, but nothing of hers has been reprinted in a long time. I've never even heard of that one, and I own 25 of her books, and have read several others. And no, I would not pay $700 for any book. The prices that are being asked are not necessarily what any buyer will pay.

Available as an ebook now. It cost me $2.99 USD.

Not on bookshop.org yet, though.
Not a favorite of mine, although the characters are well drawn.
