I'm soooo sorry! I don't know how it happened, but there it is. I missed my Thingiversary! In order to show how contrite I am, I've ordered a book. I know, I know, you're thinking that's not enough for the occasion. (Especially if PGMCC's calculator is involved; I think I may be safe there since he is on a secret assignment in eastern Europe) However, this is a ninety-five dollar book, The Art of Electronics. That should cover several obligations, and I promise not to let it happen again.

>1 suitable1: I suspect that pgmcc has his ways of finding these things out. However, I think you have made an honorable start to your obligations. Now if you follow >2 majkia:'s instructions, have a DNBR day and perhaps some cataloging time and you might get by without repercussions. ;)

Oh, and Happy Thingaversary!

This would be a good time to remind us of the standing rules for Thingaversaries. Isn't it buying one book per year of membership and one to grow on, on pain of a visit from the LT enforcement squad?

Happy Thingaversary

I thought maybe I would show them the receipt for the new book and suggest that would cover a multitude of less expensive books.

>4 Meredy: but a visit from the squad might be great fun! Not sure whether that's enough of a temptation to get me to ignore the best excuse to buy books, though.

>7 Jim53:

I'm guessing that you don't know what the enforcers do when they visit your home. Nothing simple like breaking knee caps. They remove all the books from your shelves and put them back randomly. And if that doesn't convince you, they start folding page corners until you break.

>8 suitable1: Doesn't a nice cheese platter subdue them, though?

(They'd have to remove the books from my shelves and put them back in some kind of order if they really wanted to mess me up. And what about the scores that don't even have a place on a shelf? One vertical stack alone, a few feet from where I sit, has more than three dozen in it.)

After the cheese, maybe they could build some shelves for you.

Today is my 8th Thingaversary! I will celebrate by reading some of these new books.... yay!

I am back! I am reading reports! I am working out an approach to replacing my laptop after it burnt out calculating the number of books @jillmwoo had to buy because she let her Thingaversary slip by one week.

When my computing power is back to full strength I will help you calculate the number of books required.

The Art of Electronics is a good start, but it is still only one book.

Bwahahahahahaha...!

I was afraid that reconditreader's post would get your attention. I have several books like Go Set a Watchman on preorder; maybe I can count them.

Oh, and Happy Thingaversary to @reconditereader and @jillmwo .

Perhaps we can amend the calculations to reflect the price of the tome.

I would like to join in the confession...last Tuesday was my fourth Thingaversary...I knew it was coming up, but RL got kind of busy, and it slipped my mind. Sowwy.

Who is in charge of Thingaversary alerts?

>17 fuzzi: Whoa. It's starting to look as if the penitents outnumber the enforcers. Maybe for the sake of the peace we should declare a blanket amnesty?

I was thinking that a skip could used once a decade. I'm sure @pgmcc could keep track of that on his new laptop.

I sense a disturbance in The Force.

I think that the most creative idea for dealing with this kind of oversight emerged from @imyril who noted that one could substitute caloric intake for books purchased. I believe this works best as a solution because it improves mental acuity. One can then write down on a calendar when one's Thingaversary actually occurs and PLAN for it.

BTW, thank you, >14 suitable1: for your best wishes.

>22 MrsLee: Good thinking.

>23 fuzzi: Thank you! I have just ordered multiple copies of Twilight and am having them sent to the homes of all offenders. You are getting the whole trilogy in honour of your coming up with the idea.

Bwahahahahahaha!

I am reminded of Ebenezer Scrooge. Remember how he asks if he mightn't have the three ghosts all arrive together rather than dragging out individual visits? Mightn't I have the LT thugs visit me rather than have an innocent looking parcel arrive on my doorstep, containing yet another volume for which I'll have to find shelf space? I mean it's all well and good to talk about flinging books against the wall as @MrsLee suggests, but sooner or later one has to address the STORAGE ISSUES.
