Ok fess up! What are you putting off, or ignoring to get your LT fix?

I'm supposed to be moving to a new office! "last letter" is on much more fun tho!

Writing that @#$% paper, of course. Or any of the seven other homework assignments due this week. (Eight things due, three classes -- why does this seem a little over-the-top?)

I should be homeschooling my kids. I actually tore myself away from here twice today to make sure my son understood algebraic expression and to read to my youngest. Dare I ask the translation?

I didn't get to type my paper. Stupid cousin stole the computer from me, while he was being paid by the hour to help dear old grandma learn to use her computer and not my computer. What does he do? Helps for five mins, then goes on my computer (during which time she pays him as well)! He's so on my bad list right now.

36foggidawn
Sep 12, 2007, 12:05 am

I have 5 1/2 pages, which is good. Of course, the paper is supposed to be upwards of 12, and I'm running out of things to say, which is bad. I also did all but one of my assignments (and will finish it in the next few minutes) for my other classes, which is good. However, the paper is due Thursday morning, and tomorrow I have work and class, which is bad. Pretty soon here I'm going to sleep, which is good. You probably won't see much of me around here tomorrow, either, which is . . . bad? Anyhow, after Thursday, I'll have slightly more free time to spend here, and I, at least, think that's good!

I am wondering who decides which books get press (Harry Potter) and which get censored? After all, censorship is becoming America's favorite past-time. The US gov't (and their corporate friends), already detain protesters, ban books like "America Deceived" from Amazon and Wikipedia, shut down Imus and fire 21-year tenured, BYU physics professor Steven Jones because he proved explosives, thermite in particular, took down the WTC buildings. Free Speech forever (especially for books).

Okay, here's a bit of scandal for you: I am currently teaching a class. My students are discussing their reader responses in groups and I am, in theory, supposed to be listening to their discussion, evaluating their participation, and collecting ideas for our regroup and discussion as a class (in 7 minutes).

But I just took attendance in my college's online system, and this was too good an opportunity to pass up.

I never thought about it, but maybe that's why so many of our cats got bear nicknames--Pooky bear, teddy bear, etc.

What happened? I don't check in for a while and suddenly everyone is talking cats and rabbits!

Funny about rabbits. All our cat and kitten stuff started with me wanting to take in a dwarf bunny (a friend had two rabbits she thought were both males, then she had seven rabbits, and before the proud papa could be fixed they had 13 rabbits!). Hubby was against the rabbit because we had 2 cats. He took our daughters to the pet store on an adoption day and all they did was look at him with quivering lips and we had 3. We befriended the shelter lady and all of a sudden we were taking care of the 2 kittens!
If he had just listened to me about getting a rabbit...

I normally set up blanlets for him on the couch at night, but he wants to sleep in my room lately. Btw, Loofy is described as an orange tabby as well, though he's rather creamy and not orange. I always associate Jelly Babies with the list of treats in the BBC adaptation of Dylan Thomas's A Child's Christmas in Wales.

"There were moist and many coloured jelly babies, marzipan, glaciers, and butter Welsh for the Welsh" (If I remember the book correctly though that whole section was added by the adaptation- still lovely though)

Not quite as dramatic as I had imagined I am afraid. Still a little chuckle imagining you with one of those up your nose Lady. . .

Still Kerian maybe you can find some to give out with your Halloween Graveyard- they look a little like mummies or corpses- good for Halloween.

Hehe, I've tried handing out candy that look like ears in the past, too. One of my concerns has always been finding things for the little ones, though. I probably upset the parents that are just taking their kid out to get the candy for themselves. *ducks in case of any parents with babies or toddlers appear on thread*

270Kerian
Sep 30, 2007, 1:47 pm

Um, I made the mistake of sitting next to someone where we were the only people and the woman was yelling on her phone. Guess she sells drugs. Not a happy camper, seemed to want money. I was very thankful when the bus turned up and I could get the h e double ladders out of there.

271ChelseaB-ley
Sep 30, 2007, 1:53 pm

Yikes. I hate taking the bus home from school. It is so loud and the bus driver doesn't let us sit "past the emergency exits". Buses are made to kill the kids if they get in an accident. I mean no seat belts? Come on. You could have like a long seatbelt that adjusts.

280gpwts

nothing like that AR my friend missy and I invented that:
you pick someone and watch them for three minutes then you have to make up a story about them. Like name them, tell where they work, if their married. Often these stories escalate and send us into fits of giggles, but it's good times

281Kerian
Sep 30, 2007, 2:13 pm

LOL, I would hate to be the victim of that. If I catch someone staring at me, I swear I'll star right back until they look away. I hate when people think they can stare at anything like it's they're right. (Okay, I think I mean to word that differently.)

314jugglingpaynes

I used to be a morning person, but hubby and kids are night owls. Now if I get a chance to sleep in, I take it. Homeschooling is nice in that I can honor their inner clocks. I'd rather have them wake up late in the morning than fight the losing battle to get them to sleep early.

315Kerian

I might go to bed at 10pm if I'm feeling especially sleepy, otherwise between 11pm-1pm. (I'm far from a night person - this is just to chat to LTers!) I would love to sleep past 7am, but I get at that time five days a week. Ideally, I'd like to sleep till 8-8:30am.

322LettaAvanell
Oct 8, 2007, 12:25 am

An Hour? poor you. there's two different buses that go by my house every half hour and the bus to school from downtown goes every fifteen minutes. of course the buses from my house are at the same time though, so if I miss one I have to wait half an hour for the next one. but I am moving in two weeks and then the bus will be every fifteen minutes and I won't even have to catch a different bus from downtown because they're both part of the City Loop. Yay!!! and I won't have to walk 6 blocks from the bus stop to my ballet studio anymore. now it will only be a block to 3 blocks.

323Kerian
Oct 8, 2007, 12:34 am

I hate it when a bus doesn't come. that has only happened to me once maybe twice. what's really annoying is when it comes on time but doesn't stop. that happened one time when I was waiting with my little sis and at least 3 other people.

Oh, and I'm supposed to be teaching again, but it's peer review day so they are working in groups. I'm not in the mood to walk around and listen in--instead I'm collecting copies of their review notes because some have not been completing them (shame!).

Jul 5, 2008, 1:18 am

Thanks, MrAndrew! I'm really looking forward to seeing my daughter and two of my sisters, and doing some snorkeling and lazing by the pool and good stuff like that.

About my name, it's supposed to be Storyteller, but that was already taken, so I took some liberties with the spelling.

Well, I can report that I have taken care of the fish, so they should be fine until I get back in 9 days, and I've also chosen & packed the (eight) books I'm going to be taking along, plus the electronic devices I will need (iPod, cellphone & charger, digital cameras & battery chargers, portable hard disk to download pics to, in case I take more than my 1-1/2 gig cards can hold, & charger, etc.).

I still haven't gotten around to packing clothes for the trip or cleaning the apartment. At this point, it's pretty clear that the packing is going to be a bit haphazard and the cleaning will wait until I get back (except for taking out the trash and washing up the last dish and cup I use in the morning).
