This might be of interest! I've just begun a small publishing house based in Brighton, U.K., called Puckrel Publishing - our speciality is reprints of rare writing on witchcraft from the Early Modern period.
Our first two publications are:
George Gifford - A Dialogue Concerning Witches and Witchcrafts (1593)
and
Matthew Hopkins & John Stearne - The Discovery of Witches and Witchcraft: The Writings of the Witchfinders (1647-8)
Both should be of interest to those with an interest in the history of witchcraft and English folklore.
Gifford was a puritan preacher who condemned the fervour surrounding witchcraft prosecutions, but was also eager to instigate more stringent procedures against the 'cunning folk', or 'white' witches, who, according to Gifford, also worked with the aid of Satan. The text gives a fascinating insight into Elizabethan folk beliefs and parish life.
And I'm sure everyone knows Matthew Hopkins... He was responsible, along with Stearne, for the largest witch-hunt in English history, sending over two hundred to the gallows in just two years during the English civil war. The two tracts published here are the witchfinders' defenses of their actions.
