I am finishing the year with books written by women, trying to even out that stat a little bit. Currently reading The Blindness of the Heart.

On audio, Black Dahlia; on paper The Bridge on the Drina. Very different, neither is really my kind of book, both (so far) interesting and enjoyable nonetheless.

I can't edit my other post at the moment for some reason - nothing is "sticking." Anyway, I realize that's not a list book.
(And now it's fixed and I look like I'm talking to myself like a crazy person ...)

I'm listening to Gullivers Travels and reading Metamorphoses at the moment

The thread on tomes made me realize that I haven't read one for a while. I've started The Bridal Wreath, Volume 1 of Kristin Lavransdatter. These have been on Planet TBR since 2008. I think they'll make a good December read.

>7 streamsong: you are in for such a holiday treat. That series is one of my all-time favorites from the List.

Currently in the middle of Life is a caravanserai.
Will follow that up with The Bridge on the Drina for the group read and then The Captive, which is book five of Proust's In Search of Lost Time.
I hope to read The Name of the Rose this month too, if I can squeeze it in.

I started The Forsyte Saga, which will keep me busy for a while. I don't know if I will finish in time to join the GR this month. Besides, I try to squeeze in The Romantics.
11Deern
Still gnawing on Gravity's Rainbow and I fear that will be it for this busy month.

>5 ursula: That's okay, sit down and I'll go make you a cup of tea.
And over this way, I'm starting Smilla's Sense of Snow.

My 1001 pace has slowed, so I decided to pick up Our Mutual Friend to grind it to a halt. At least I've made it to the half way point and thanks to Schmoop I can understand this convoluted saga.

>13 aliciamay: Yay, Shmoop! I used it during my recent read of Hard Times and found that I was missing things (a couple of characters spoke in dialect that made my eyes glaze over).

>12 Nickelini: Thanks, tea sounds so soothing. :)
I'm uh ... going to start a list book soon. I don't know which one. The end of this year seems to be falling apart in terms of reading and time is running out way too fast!

yes schmoop is a good resource. I am reading Agnes Grey and still plodding along with Metamorphoses

I like to read everything Mailer, so I am working on Oswald's Tale. Also- everything Russian.
18Tanglewood
Right now, I am reading The Children's Book by A. S. Byatt. It is a little slow going as I don't find the descriptions of the dinner parties interesting, but it has picked up now with Olive's early life as the child of a mining family. A.S. Byatt can be a little hit and miss for me, as I really like her shorter works like The Djinn in the Nightengale's Eye.

I've been sucked in to Transit by Anna Seghers.

The plot against America has just come in from the library. It's probably going to be my last 1001 book of 2015.

As always I've got a reading pile next to my bed which threatens to fall over and crush me. My two main reads at the moment (from the 1001 lists) are The Robber Bride and The Wings of the Dove. Both slow going to start with although The Robber Bride is finally picking up some steam. Henry James of course will probably remain at a snails pace for the entire book.
22Deern
I just noticed that Virginia Woolf's Between the Acts I was reading last week was a 1,001 on the 2006 list - finished it, loved it! 3rd favorite VW so far.
And I'm slow listening to Babbitt by Sinclair Lewis.

>20 paruline: I've been thinking about that book a lot lately!

I'm reading Nervous Conditions which is very good, and on audio in the car I'm hearing Nostromo. Since I don't drive a lot at this time of year, the latter will be occupying me for a long time.
25ursula
I finally got into the swing with actual list books. I finished Written on the Body a bit ago, and I'm now about halfway through A Handful of Dust.
26Simone2
I finished Waterland and am starting now in the third part of The Forsyte Saga, which I like a lot. Next will be another try with Beckett, who I throw away last time I tried.

I'm about half way through The Wife, the second volume of Kristin Lavransdatter. I'm enjoying it - annamorphic is right - it's a good read for December. I'm learning lots of Norwegian history and the medieval stuff is fun. Love triangles, murder, plots against the king, oh my.
28ELiz_M
Recently finished The Quest for Christa T. and The Back Room and started The Sea, the Sea which is going to be wonderful.
29Nickelini
Finally finished Smilla's Sense of Snow. It had some interesting aspects but overall it didn't work for me.
30gypsysmom
Finished Ulysses today after working my way through it all year. Now I'm going to try to knock off another one from the list before the end of the year King Solomon's Mines.
31Jan_1
I'm still reading Great Expectations and Metamorphosis as well as The Secret Agent - hoping to get them all finished before the new year.
