I'm trying to remember a book that I read when I was in middle school, which would have been around 2007-2009, however this book would have been published well before that I think.
I can only remember a few things about it:
The story centered around a girl (possibly teenaged?) who had to go on a sea voyage for some reason.
I think she left behind an aunt or mother or sisters or some sort of relative whom she either thought about and missed or wrote letters to.
I believe the girl was setting sail from England?
I think the book was set somewhere in the 1800s or so.
The book was split into two parts I believe. I think the first part was about her as a really proper, educated, innocent lady, and then something happens on the boat (maybe mutiny or something pirate related?) and she turns into a more hardened sailor/pirate in the second part.
Somewhere in the book, I think between the two parts, there were detailed diagrams of the ship, labeled with masts and sails and similar things.
I'm pretty sure this is some relatively obscure YA fiction book, so if any one can add clues or the title I'd be very appreciative.

This a shot in the dark, but you might be thinking of The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, one of my daughter's favorite books.

"The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle", by Avi. It is a good one, sort of a grade school version of "Moby Dick".
