Well, having failed to keep up my notes for last year ( http://www.librarything.com/topic/185759 ), I'm going to try again for 2016. I don't promise to review or even list everything I read, but I hope to post some notes on the highlights.

I've been on holiday all this week and have been reading. Recently picked up some used paperbacks at the library, and finished the last today: Wolf Justice by Doranna Durgin, Firebird by Mercedes Lackey, and Curse of the Black Heron by Holly Lisle. I've read several of Doranna Durgin's books, mostly through Early Reviewers, including the prequel to this one, and enjoy her writing. Firebird is a russian folktale retelling, told from the point of view of the younger-son prince who leaves home and makes good. OK, but far from her best.

Happy New Year to you. Stopping by to drop off a star so I can follow you this year. I too am in the midst of trying to keep up a bit better this year. We shall see... life is good.

Thanks to all who are following. I'm keeping an eye on your threads too! I'm a great lurker.

Found another trove of discards at the library:
Fire in the Mist by Holly Lisle - fantasy, enjoyed this, discovered I have the sequel around somewhere, will have to dig it out and reread.
Dragon's Eye by James Hetley - urban fantasy, witches, selkies, set in east coast US (Maine). Good book, he doesn't seem well-known, but I like the few books of his that I've read.
Dragon's Teeth sequel to above book. Also good.

Fire in the mist sounds like a fun read. I think I've only read one book by Lisle and wasn't excited by it, but I might look out for this one.

Got a paperback copy of Tanya Huff's The Future Falls in the mail and devoured it - I always enjoy her books. Urban fantasy with dragon, set mostly in Calgary area. In the same world as The Enchantment Emporium and The Wild Ways. The ending was a bit abrupt, but very satisfying.

Am now working on The Atrocity Archives by Charles Stross. The Laundry is Britain's secret government agency in charge of supernatural cleanup. Fun, but don't find the writing as easy to get through as some books. I keep going back a bit thinking I missed something.

Both of those books appear to have been good fun! That is the best when reading. Good Fun!

Hope this finds you well and happy.

Finished the Atrocity Archives, and enjoyed it, but really wanted to get on to my next book.

I couldn't resist getting an ebook copy of Lois McMaster Bujold's newest: Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen

Don't want to give any spoilers for LMB or Vorkosigan fans, so my only comment is that I loved it, go read it yourself!

Next book is a toss up between No Time Like the Past by Jodi Taylor (ebook), or The Jennifer Morgue by Charles Stross (paperback).

Finished No Time Like the Past, in which the staff of St. Mary's continue to investigate history in their own unique way. This felt like several stories connected together more than a single book, but I continue to enjoy this series.

After this I got hold of ebook copies of a number of books I'd been interested in, and have worked my way through Radiance by Grace Draven (saw it mentioned on someone's thread in the GD), Uprooted by Naomi Novik, How Green this Land, How Blue This Sea by Mira Grant, Clean Sweep and Sweep in Peace by Ilona Andrews. All worth reading.

Needless to say I did not get a number of things done this weekend that should have been done.

>14 NorthernStar: I loved Clean sweep and am looking forward to the sequel. I liked the unusual blend of SF and UF, and the idea of the Innkeeper's role.

Recently finished my latest ER book, Bogman by R. I. Olufson. A police drama, set mainly in Denmark, it features an old mystery - the man in the bog - which gradually seems to link to newer problems. The reader is taken through the discovery process as the various mysteries unfold, and kept guessing until the end.

Although I've never been to Denmark, so I don't know how accurate the descriptions of location are, I enjoyed the sense of place, as well as the characters and the flow of the narrative. I was surprised to find this was the first crime novel by this author.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and look forward to future offerings from this author.

Note: Touchstones aren't working on either book or author.

Touchstones were not working yesterday, you might try again today, I had to do them in a separate post though, they didn't work when I did the "edit" thing.
