Limited to 1,.000 copies. $356 / 4 x 89
Looks like it is half bound in leather and half either cloth/paper can't tell.

I have the set published by EP in 1996. Same text, same illustrations, same size, and 4 of the most beautifully bound books they have ever produced. And all leather. I can't imagine how the new set could be better than the old one.

I have that set as well. It is truly beautiful and ornately done.

I'm a not of fan of the above nor EP's attempt at the set on George Washington.

Yuck. This is markedly inferior to the 4 volume offering in 1996. Here is a link for those who want to see pictures.

And much more expensive than the superior earlier release!

I also have the original 4 book set and can attest that it can be obtained without much effort on eBay, one book at a time.

"and includes custom-designed dust jackets that when placed side by side, reproduce one of Pyle's famous illustrations from this set!"

huh. What does it look like without the dust jackets?

If my memory is correct, I believe I paid in the $50/book range for when they were new. I see them go for $400 plus on evil bay from time to time (in new/very fine condition).

I picked up an extra set from an estate sale, a few years back. They are new in shrinkwrap. I may be interested in parting with them if someone expressed interest. I bought them because I thought my brother would be interested in them but he never got back with me.

"and includes custom-designed dust jackets that when placed side by side, reproduce one of Pyle's famous illustrations from this set!"

Eeew! That's something that Bradford does with their cheaply made in China books. Furthermore, I don't like dust jackets. I think EP went down the wrong road in this case.

By the way, if it was half bound in leather that would have been fine by me!

I def. want to exhange my Dover paperbacks sometime.. Howard Pyle had a strange way to put the words out, but the stories are great - and i have been eying the former 4 volumes mentioned for years - they look lovely (but to expensive for what i would like to pay) .. i`m saying - i could be enabled by this, and some pics would not do any harm, and could tip me over. My personal opinion: I would actually be happy enough if Barnes & Noble published the last three volumes also, - same thing, just different wrapping

I agree, I also enjoy Howard Pyle's books. I am reading my Reader's Choice title Men Of Iron right now and love the story so far.

I also purchased Men of Iron and read it a few weeks ago. Not only did I like the book, I also found out it was made into a movie in the 50's called "The Black Shield of Falworth". The entire movie is available to watch for free on YouTube for anyone interested (it is of course, nowhere close to as good as the book...in fact, honestly, it's somewhat bad....but the book is very good).

I love this set but I don't think it will match with my other books. =/ Book people problems...

I have been waiting for this set ever since they discontinued it about 6 years ago. I actually tried to order it TWO WEEKS after it was discontinued and was so upset. My excitement for its return took a nosedive when I saw that it's far less attractive than the original. That truly was one of EP's most beautiful sets, and actually affordable! I think around $60 per volume instead of this one that's not nearly as nice yet 30% more expensive. EP has really dropped the ball in this re-issue. I have zero desire to get this set and guess I must now resort to piecing together the original 4 volume set through individually buying each book since the complete sets are going for crazy amounts of money. GRRRRR!!!!

If you are patient and do some looking, you can find the set reasonably priced.

<21 I agree with you. I own the earlier set, and it, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful sets EP has published.

What is the story with: Pyle, Howard - The Story of King Arthur and His Knights, issued in i think 1992. That only contained of the first volume (the dark black one) - that one is also expensive secondhand often

I got one volume for $30. I seem to recall picking them up individually was cheaper, but that was years ago.
