I want to touchstone James Wong looking for http://www.librarything.com/author/wongjames-2. The things listed under Others are all books.

Yes, that worked. If there are no book touchstones you get author alternatives, but a book touchstone in the same message gives you book alternatives for an author touchstone.

I don't think that's it.
I just tried here using John G. Paton. I didn't use a book touchstone. The first time I tried the author touchstone, I got the book alternatives. So I deleted the touchstone and tried again. The second time, I got author alternatives.
I thought at first this problem might be confined to split authors, but it's not.
