I haven't read it yet, but I will. I should say I'm not a fan of some of the contributors: Glenn Beck, Brent Bozell, Mona Charen, Cal Thomas, Thomas Sowell. Fortunately, not a Palin or Coulter in sight.

Glad they're doing it.

The cathartic effect of the NR attack must be immense for these establishment politicos - but will one mind (and I use the word loosely) be changed one wit regarding any potential voters for Mr. Trump? I would have to say that there will be no change - at all.
And thus ends another day.
And thus ends another day.

In fact, the National Review article may well increase Trump's support.

As Trump has already mentioned, he could walk out onto Fifth Avenue right now and shoot a man and not lose a single supporter.

Trump is definitely not going to get bogged down with details.

Kuiperdolin,
I don't know many people who hate Trump. I don't hate him. He seems to be running a campaign that is perfectly suited for Facebook slogan posters.

Nope.....not one. In fact he would become a "Maverick....exercising his 2nd Amendment Rights". He may just pick up a bit more steam.

I don't hate Trump. I am just profoundly saddened and dismayed by the number of American's who want to live in a country of Trumps making. As I said before, if I were younger I would leave. I have no interest in living in a country that strives to be a "world power" and can not afford to give it's citizens affordable healthcare and clean water. I can not see the beauty behind the highest stock market numbers ever and a decline in the standard of living my children and grandchildren are having to struggle with. To me Trump stands for all of this and a portion of people admire him for it. Lack of critical thinking skills is my guess.
Give them enough rope........Karma. Too bad I am still here to watch is all.
Hating someone like Trump doesn't change those who see benefits from his candidacy and/or possible victory.

I know many Republicans who dislike Trump and many Democrats who dislike Clinton and Sanders. But they will all pull their respective levers, like compulsive gamblers at a slot machine.

This is James Bryce from 1888 on the presidency:
"Four-fifths of his work is the same in kind as that which devolves on the chairman of a commercial company or the manager of a railway, the work of choosing good subordinates, seeing that they attend to their business, and taking a sound practical view of such administrative questions as require his decision. "Firmness, common sense, and most of all, honesty, an honesty above all suspicion of personal interest, are the qualities which the country chiefly needs in its chief magistrate."
Sounds like Trump, doesn't it? Trump has said he's beyond personal interest, a claim no one else can make. My guess is that explains a lot of his appeal.

Everyone is appalled by this, and it's vaguely appalling. But there's some real truth in it too.

I can't find it now, but I think I saw that 15% of Republicans wouldn't vote for him, no matter what. I'm in that bunch, definitely.

Ahhh, Trump -- the perfect nominee of the Party whose agenda has been to foment racial conflict (the Southern Strategy); promote baseless fear and uber-faux patriotism ("Patriot" Act); and celebrate bigoty, hatred, and domestic terrorism.
The famously labeled, "Short-fingered Vulgarian."
A perfect fit for the people who are proud Republicans now that the Party of Lincoln has been hijacked by the kinds of persons Lincoln (and all decent people living now) would despise -- haters.

Trump says outrageous things for attention. It works. You know TV. The weirder, the better.
A Nielsen ratings candidate, not a good president.

Donald "Gong Show" Trump?
Agreed -- Trump is the just karma delivered to traditional Republicans who were too frightened of the crazy Christianist, gun-sucking, anti-govmint, bullying Tea Party minority who intimidated them into lickspittle submission. Thus, Party leaders stood by while a once worthy political entity was reduced by barbarians to a laughing-stock where all the nutcases go to play at politics.

Oh yeah, I think it absolutely will. After all, Trump is the (ahem) anti-establishment guy. National Review is the quintessence of establishment conservatism in the United States; therefore, NR publishing an anti-Trump issue plays right into the narrative Trump is creating for his supporters.

Despite this being a bookish site, it surprises me how the intelligence is. But then there's more to life than books.

>16 librorumamans: and continuing the idea of hate.
"Hate", like "evil", as used in common speech, strikes me as so vague and lazy a term as to be largely without content.
I acknowledged earlier feeling disdain and contempt for Trump and Rob Ford, but not hate. Reflecting further on my comment, I sense in addition my lack of empathy towards these individuals (whom I am using here only as broadly known instances). I wonder whether this lack of empathy may be what is meant when people speak casually of hating someone.

It's challenging to have empathy for individuals who seem to completely lack the same quality. I think most of us expect grown folks like Ford and Trump to have come to a point where they have some degree of compassion for others, but they both seem to lack the capacity to do so (I'm on slightly shaky ground with Ford on this one, as I don't know as much about him as I do Trump). They do elicit my pity and disappointment, although I realize that neither one is precisely the same thing as empathy. Excuse me for belaboring a cliché, but I think here it applies: what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul?

I for one don't hate Don. T. He has effectively destroyed the republican party. That is a good thing, whether he is doing it knowingly or unknowingly.
It was probably going the way of the dinosaurs anyway but Don. T. has definitely sped up the process of collapse and fail quite a bit. Even if he doesn't get the nomination.
