Child goes up hill and is frightened by owl screeching

Children's - Child goes out of house across fields and hedges and up a hill. At the hilltop an Owl (?) goes Whooo = and the child is scared and retraces steps back across hedges fields and back to bed.
Read to my children 35 or so years ago

That's interesting, it sounds similar to the more recent We're Going on a Bear Hunt; maybe it was the inspiration.
