I have somehow neglected to sign up for this year's challenge.

I'll be listing the books I've read in 2016, probably on a monthly basis. I'm hoping to reach a round 100 books read!

29 Life in a Rock Pool - Clare Oliver
A surprisingly detailed children's book about, well, rock pools.

30 How the Turtle Got Its Shell - Justine & Ron Fontes
A new-fashioned Little Golden Book. Nothing like the Little Golden Books of my childhood!

31 The Art of Free Travel - Patrick Jones & Meg Ulman
Two eco-hippies go travelling on bicycles with their children and dog. Not really "free", more like "freeloaders", as in "we didn't lay out any cash because we conned someone else into providing food and a place to sleep for us".

32 A Life in Stitches - Rachael Herron
A life in knitting.

33 Where Have I Gone? - Pauline Quirke
A celebrity biography. Thinly disguised ad for the slimming product she used.

34 Heathens and Liars of Lickskillet County - Derek Berry
A free book obtained via LibraryThing's Early Reviewers programme. Quite a depressing Teen/Young Adult story in which *nobody* is happy or successful.

35 Victorian Nottingham in Old Photographs - Michael Payne
The title of the book says it all.

36 Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - Ian Fleming
Yes, the same author that invented James Bond. Who knew there were large print children's books?

74 Something For the Weekend (Penguin 70) - Jamie Oliver
A Penguin 70. Essentially a cook-book.

Travel/biography of a woman who couldn't adapt to life in Greece.

77. Adventures With the Wife in Space - Neil Perryman
Humorous story of a woman watching every episode of Dr Who at the behest of her Whovian husband.

August Reads

80 Butterflies in November - Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir
Icelandic story of a woman and a boy on a road trip around Iceland.

81 How (Not) to Start an Orphanage - Tara Winkler
The story of how a young Australian woman opens an orphanage in Cambodia in a naive attempt to help disadvantaged Cambodian children. It's incredible to think that a woman with absolutely no training or experience in child welfare, charity work or the Cambodian culture/way of life could be allowed to basically swan in and take over the care of a group of children. Happily, it appears that she now sees the error of her ways and has modified her charity's work. Hopefully the children have not suffered too much for it.

82 It's Christmas - Tina Burke
A children's book about Christmas.

83 First Blood: a Cultural Study of Menarche - Sally Dammery
A quite scholarly book about women's experience of menarche. Stumbled across this book at my local library. Not quite sure why it is part of their catalogue - not the sort of thing I'd image most people would be interested in. But, still, it's there!

84 Great Australian CWA Stories - Bill 'Swampy' Marsh
A collection of recipes and CWA members' stories of how they came to join the Country Women's Association.

September Reads

85 All I Know - Mary Coustas
Biography of an Australian comedian. It ends on a tragic note but I have heard that there have been happier times since the book was written.

86 All You Need is Luck - Frank Nelson
A New Zealand husband and wife decide to pack it all in and go travelling. This is an account of the first two years travelling. It seems a bit strange that, with an entire world to explore, they seem to have confined themselves to the UK, USA and Australia. Perhaps it's a language and work visa issue. I hope they have managed to spread their wings a bit further since!

87 Cairns Botanic Gardens - Cairns Regional Council
A brief history and description of the Cairns Botanic Gardens.

88 Riding Rockets - Mike Mullane
Autobiography of an American astronaut. Mullane comes across as incredibly self-absorbed, egotistical and sexist. Let's hope he'd become a more bearable work colleague since then.

89 Red Dust Road - Jackie Kay
Autobiography of an adopted child. If I were ever adopted, I'd hope it would be by the same kind of parents that Jackie was adopted by!

90 Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - JK Rowling, Jack Thorne, John Tiffany
A script of the Harry Potter play currently being staged in London. There are a couple of plot twists in there. Now that I've read it, I'm curious as to how the play is actually being staged!

91 Tales of the Honey Badger - Nick Cummins
A rugby player writes an autobiography of sorts. Amusing, but doesn't require much brain power to read.

92 Easily Distracted - Steve Coogan
An OK autobiography but Part 2 of the book was much more interesting than Part 1.

October Reads

93 The Summer of '82 - Dave O'Neil
An autobiography. The author was a teenager at around the same time I was, so a few memories were stirred!

94 The Bumper Book of Bunny Suicides - Andy Riley
Humourous cartoons, although they started to get a bit repetitive after a while.

95 Forever Liesl - Charmian Carr
The actress who played Liesl reminisces about her time making The Sound of Music. Sadly, she passed away recently.

96 Australian Leader Eats Raw Onion Whole - Evan Williams
Humour/satire. News headlines from the time when Tony Abbott was Prime Minister of Australia.

97 I Just Couldn't Wait to Meet You - Kate Ritchie
A delightful children's book.

November Reads

98 An Englishman's Home - Tom Hart Dyke
The story of an upper-class young man with a big money dream. And completely no desire to get a job to pay for it.

99 The Boy Behind the Curtain - Tim Winton
Vignettes from the life of a now successful Australian author.

100 The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo - Amy Schumer
Bits and pieces for the life of a now successful American comedian. I sense a pattern emerging in this month's books!

101 The Hate Race - Maxine Beneba Clarke
A biography of a brown girl in a predominately white country...

December Reads

102 Quentin: Not All Superheroes Wear Capes - Quentin Kenihan
An autobiography from someone I feel I've known for almost all my life.

103 Lucky Little Mouse! - A.H. Benjamin
Children's book.

104 Full Bore - William McInnes
Semi-autobiographical vignettes.

105 Disney Lion Guard: My Busy Book - Disney
Rooaarrr!

106 The Good People - Hannah Kent
The second book from this author. I see many similarities to her first book - both feature persecuted/outcast women 100+ years ago in rural areas of countries starting with the letter I (Ireland, Iceland). Both featuring deaths and both apparently based on true stories.

107 The Other Bears - Michael Thompson
Koala bears live happily in Australia. But what happens when bears from other parts of the world start arriving? A children's book with beautiful illustrations.

108 Can a Skeleton Have an X-ray? - Kyle Hughes-Ogders
Interesting children's book.

109 Miss Llewellyn-Jones Goes to Town - Elaine Forrestal
A children's book that is apparently one in a series about Miss Llewellyn-Jones.

110 The World According to Warren - Craig Silvey
A children's book told from a dog's point of view.

111 The Last Viking - Norman Jorgensen
A children's book with beautiful illustrations.
