Revisiting a favorite, Elegy for Eddie until my book buying budget catches up with my desire to catch up with the Maisie Dobbs series :)

Reading Rush of Blood (the only Billingham novel that I had not read yet) and so far it is a bit ho hum - it has some interesting moments but I hope it is not going where I think it is.

Finished Ashes to Dust and starting The Day is Dark.

I've started Enemy of Mine by Brad Taylor.

Still reading World of Trouble by Ben H. Winters. I finished The Redeemer by Jo Nesbo and started the next one, The Snowman. It's creepy, but I love that.

Am a ways into Dark Corners by Ruth Rendell, here final novel. I have to say my exasperation with the main character made me skim to see if it got better. It's really hard for me to believe that Carl would let Dermot's blackmail scheme go so far. I mean, yeah, Rendell writes the uber passive, non-confrontational British male very well, but this guy is far from believable. But what I picked up in my skimming will help me finish, albeit with probably more skimming. It's not Rendell's fault, but mine because I want to smack the guy a good one.

I just finished the 9th Montalbano book, The Paper Moon. This is such a good series!

Finished The Day is Dark by Yrsa Sigurdardottir. My least favorite of the series so far; however, I am on to the next book, Someone to Watch Over Me.

Still haven't finished the Maigret, because a library book with a looming deadline takes precedence: After the Crash, by Michel Bussi (translated by Sam Taylor from the French, Un avion sans elle).

Picked up Fool Me Once by Harlan Coben and was just going to read a page or two but now I'm 200 pages in. Really liking this one!
23rosalita
I'm experiencing withdrawal pains after binging on Deborah Crombie's Duncan Kincaid/Gemma James series and finishing off the most recent one, To Dwell in Darkness today. Now what?!
24Copperskye
>23 rosalita: Bruno: Chief of Police..... Well, you asked. :)
25rosalita
>24 Copperskye: Wait a minute! Didn't you already tag me with the Wexford series? One series warble at a time, Joanne!
26mvo62
>23 rosalita: Or Susan Hill's Simon Serrailler series, or Elly Griffiths' Ruth Galloway series or Ann Cleeves' (Vera Stanhope or Shetland series). Just in case Wexford loses his appeal ;)
27mvo62
Finished The Brutal Telling, by Louise Penny, and Hester and Harriet, by Hilary Spiers (the latter bordered on the Mystery genre) and have just started Booked to Die, by John Dunning.
28Copperskye
>25 rosalita: Nope, not me. I'm all about Bruno at the moment. I haven't read Wexford. Yet.

Started on A Play of Piety, part another well-done medieval series featuring a Joliffe and a troupe of traveling players. Interesting historical tidbits about the profession in that time.

Fool Me Once by Colben was great as are all his books,

I started Redemption Road last night and read the first 90 pages or so. It features Hart's first female protagonist (this is his fifth book), a cop who is in trouble for excessive violence. She seems prone to developing healthy-looking but suspicious relationships with children who are crime victims. Can't wait to find out what her formative childhood experiences were.

Finished Someone to Watch Over Me and started The Silence of the Sea. Really enjoyed the former.

Am about 1/2 through Found Wanting by the marvelous Robert Goddard. College buddies, one can't really trust the other, one is dying, both trying to get possession of a briefcase that might prove that Anastasia lived through the massacre and the Russian Revolution. It's fab.
42mvo62
Finished A Breach of Security (a Simon Serrailler short story), by Susan Hill and have started The Studio Crime, by Ianthe Jerrold.
43vivienbrenda
I'm also a big Deborah Crombie fan, and though not normally into espionage, I'd recommend the Daniel Silva series about art restorer/Israeli agent, Gabriel Allon. Not sure why I suggest this series but I enjoyed them all. I'd also recommend the Prey series by John Sandford, (if you don't mind some gruesome crimes.

I'm now reading Path of the Assassin by Brad Thor.

Now reading Last Seen Wearing..., by Hillary Waugh. It's a good book for the train because it takes a bit of time to get fully absorbed in the story.

Started The Second Life of Nick Mason by Steve Hamilton today. Off to a good start. I've got high hopes for this one.

Currently I'm reading Defending Jacob by William Landay. So far it has been a page-turner.
51leslie.98
I read The Silent Sea by Clive Cussler, my first book by him. If you don't mind unrealistic scenarios, then this is a fun thriller...
52vivienbrenda
I though Defending Jacob was a wonderful book. Haven't read anything else by the author, although I've been thinking about it.

I'm reading A Clean Kill in Tokyo by Barry Eisler. It was recommended for Lee Child fans somewhere in this group, so I immediately went looking. I discovered that Amazon Prime customers could borrow Eisler's first book in the series for free!
I'm fascinated by the bits of spy tradecraft he drops like breadcrumbs along the way, but I really don't care for his propensity for exact street naming -- too much Japanese language which I just skip over, but I suppose it does tend to add to the sense of place as I'm reading. I've been to Tokyo, found the layout of its train stations and large department stores as confusing as Eisler describes, but naming every street and alleyway that the protagonist walks on gets to be a bit much.
All together, I'm enjoying the book and will read more in the series! I think it was good that I started with the first in the series because Eisler is providing a *lot* of detail about the main character's background. Thank you to whomever made that suggestion to read him.

I'm late to the party but I'm just starting The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. I hope it lives up to the hype. I just finished The Distant Hours by Kate Morton. It was described as a "gothic thriller" and it totally delivered.

Had a long weekend off work so got some reading done instead of housework and gardening! Even Dogs in the Wild by Ian Rankin. I've always loved his Rebus novels, but now that I've actually been to Edinburgh myself, I'm enjoying the stories even more when I recognize a place or street name. And I had a drink in the Oxford Bar when I was there!
69mvo62
Finished A Dedicated Man (Inspector Banks Book 2), by Peter Robinson and have just started the third in the series, A Necessary End.

I finished Jar City, which for some reason I had not gotten to before (despite the fact that I love this series!).

Finished Broken Harbour by Tana French and started on Blacklands by Belinda Bauer. Two pretty dark books back to back, something tells me I'm going to need something light-hearted next.
