Academies, etc.

For authors who have been elected to membership in some Academy or Society (e.g., the Royal Society, Académie française, American Academy of Arts and Letters)--this info should go in the "Organizations" field, shouldn't it? I've been putting it there, but I noticed some others are putting it in the "Awards and honors" field. It's certainly an honor to be elected to one of these organizations, but they are organizations with permanent members, officers, meetings, elections, etc.

And format--put year of election after the name?:

I've been putting info like that into Organizations also.

I have been putting President of the Royal Society in Honours (with dates), although Fellow would go in organizations.

Perhaps it should "FRS (President 1995-2000)" in organizations?

>4 ringman: I would avoid acronyms with organizations, universities, etc. They just get extremely confused.

My feeling is that membership and the "usual" officers elected by the membership or staff members should be under organisations. However where the organisation gives a particular designation to "people of merit" such as fellows or honorary members then this should go under awards/honors. Of course the difference is not always clear cut. Similarly an Honorary degree goes under awards, but the PHd goes under Education.

An old, old thread, but I still find myself doubting myself on this from time to time, as often as not depending on the prestige of the organisation.

I have been putting fellows and presidents of national academies (like Royal Society, Académie française, American Academy of Arts and Letters, named above) in CK/Awards and honours, and terms as officers of the same bodies in CK/Organizations.

But for "lesser" clubs and societies (e.g. British Medical Association, National Audubon Society, The Arthur Ransome Society) memberships and presidents all go under CK/Organizations.

Do others have the same niggling self-doubt about the lack of consistency, and how do you navigate it?
