Name That Book: Collection of Children's Horror Stories 1970s/80s

I am looking for a volume of short horror stories I borrowed from my school library in 1981-1982. I am not sure how old the book was at the time time. Here is what I know:
1. It is not Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark
2. It is not one of the Horror Tales volumes
3. I do not recall if it was a single author or collected stories
4. I do not recall if the book itself contained illustrations
5. I recall the front and back cover as a wraparound painting illustrating many of the monsters or events in the book
6. It may have been part of a series with at least two volumes
7. I recall one of the stories involved a boy or girl receiving delivery of a box they were warned not to open. Of course they could not resist and unleashed a creature that destroyed them and/or anyone else in the home
8. I recall another more "cosmic horror" themed story about a creature or affliction composed of rapidly generating crystal - weird but anyone who read is likely to recall.
Wish I could remember more. This was heavy stuff in 3rd-4th grade and I loved this book but was terrified at the same time. Would love to lay my hands on a copy now.
