Andrew, I didn't see where we get to nominate a book for a group read.

24Andrew-theQM
Jun 17, 2016, 1:27 am

Bette I haven't set up a voting thread on Library Thing yet as we are still working through the books we nominated and voted for in the May nomination thread on Leafmarks.

https://www.leafmarks.com/lm/#/discussions/forums/92/topics/MRiu4WCOSlKZvmVpCd2v...

As it was a tie we decided to read:
The Templar Legacy by Steve Berry in June and Hour Game by David Baldacci in July. As a result of these two reads it will be July before the next nomination thread.

Blood Infernal is one of the additional reads we do, which is the final book in the Order of the Sanguines Trilogy by James Rollins and Rebecca Cantrell.

I can dig out the reports my children have received and brush up on the terminology, such as; social butterfly, enjoys playtime more than math, looks forward to lunch, shouldn't hide her uneaten sandwiches in her desk as the grape jelly gets all over her papers.

Changed recess to playtime. I'm a fast learner. How about this comment:

Peter complains that he is too warm but refuses to remove his jumper.

I especially liked the update I got from nursery school when my daughter was 3:

Kristin is progressing very well. She can now jump on one foot 15 times.

40Andrew-theQM
Jun 26, 2016, 1:56 pm

>39 EadieB: Lol! Don't think jumping on one foot 15 times is in our curriculum. Removing a jumper when you get too warm is, it's covered under one of the Personal, Social and Emotional Development parts of the Early Learning Goal.

41EadieB
Edited: Jun 26, 2016, 2:14 pm

>40 Andrew-theQM:
I found out that jumping on one foot shows that you are somewhat coordinated.

My stepson went to Montessori school which was quite expensive and his report said that he likes to polish the piano. When he came to stay at my house on the weekends, I gave his a dust rag and told him that I heard he was very good at dusting. lol

44Carol420
Jun 26, 2016, 2:35 pm

My daughter's first grade teacher sent home a note that said "Jacquelynne insists on writing her entire name on her papers...thus there is no room for her written work." Seems she only had four lines and she used three of them to write her first, middle and last name. That left one line.

Jumpers...I spent the better part of an entire day searching for the "jumper" that my volunteer from London declared she had taken off and left in the volunteer room. I found a sweater but alas no "jumper". When i called her and told her what I had found she said "Well I can't imagine what happened to it." Neither of us realizing that we had solved the problem. Separated by a common language:) I couldn't figure out why she would have taken her jumper off in the first place and how she would have gotten home in just her under ware.

Jun 26, 2016, 3:10 pm

>40 Andrew-theQM:
He was about 4 so he really was into dusting and said he would help me dust. But that didn't last too long. He finally decided he would rather play with his dad. He did end up going to The Berkley School of Music in Boston but he played the drums not the piano. Now he works in New York for the Meredith Publishing Company. He does market research for their advertising department.

The next Group Read is The Hour Game by David Baldacci. I have an e-copy (always hard to get a feeling of how big the book is). According to Amazon it has 736 pages! Given this do you want to do the Group Read over 6 or 7 days. May be a bit much over 5 days! But leave a post to say what you feel. The read starts on Wednesday.

56EadieB
Edited: Jul 25, 2016, 8:36 am

I have an advanced reading copy that has 437 pages. I'd like to spread it over 7 days because I like the shorter reading sections. For my book in order to make 7 pretty even sections the reading chapters would be:

Day 1 - Chapters 1-14 - up to page 62
Day 2 - Chapters 15-29 - up to page 119
Day 3 - Chapters 30-43 - up to page 183
Day 4 - Chapters 44-58 - up to page 249
Day 5 - Chapters 59-74 - up to page 313
Day 6 - Chapters 75-87 - up to page 374
Day 7 - Chapters 88-101 - up to page 437

Hope this helps you because I know it will be hard to figure with an ebook.

I have now updated the Group Reads for the last two months of the year.

Current Situation

Finished or up to date
Ruth Galloway Series - Finished until new one published
Shetland Series - Finished until new one published
Vera Stanhope Series - Finished (by end of December) until new one published

In the Middle of Series
The Oregon Files - read 4 of 11
The Cotton Malone Series - Read 3 of 11 (by end of year)
Sean King/Michelle Maxwell Series - Read 3 of 6
Robert Goddard - reading through his standalones

82Andrew-theQM
Oct 28, 2016, 9:43 am

Given this we have got scope to target another couple of series next year or one we read intensively (I.e. 1 Book a month)

Please make suggestions of any series you would like to read as a group. Could then look at a vote to decide the 1 or 2 series. Could be totally new Series or could even be a series we have already read the first book of in the Mystery and Suspense Group Read.

Oct 28, 2016, 3:31 pm

I like the ones that Brenda recommended and I also like the Ben Hope series. My library only has 3 of them and I'm not sure they are all Ben Hope. They probably could get more. I also agree with Sergie that we should do more of Chris Carter's Hunter books. We started the Kate Bunkholder series by Linda Castillo but didn't finish for some reason. Going back on the "Books We Have Discussed on Mystery & Suspense Since the Group Began" topic thread... I can find that we have only read the first one Sworn To Silence and that was read #65 on Shelfari. We're up to 104 with the addition of Harbour Street.... Beyond Recall... The Hunters in November.

There are now 7 more books in the series and number 8 coming out in July 2017.

I have read all of them but it is a series that I would be more than happy to read them again. I'll be a good girl and not give anything away if I remember any of it:)

:) :) :) Yeah!!! Heard from my library this morning and they have found a copy of The Hunters and have ordered it. Now they have to get Beyond Recall. They had a copy but it strolled off and never found it's way home.

I think in the past Eadie has also suggested:

The Lucas Davenport Series by John Sandford (suggested by Carol)
The Lincoln Rhyme Series by Jeffrey Deaver
The Sigma Force Series by James Rollins

I've read the first 3 in the Lucas Davenport Series and enjoyed them but had great difficulty getting hold of book 4.
I've also read the first Lincoln Rhyme book which was a great read and a few of the Sigma Force Series but would have no problems with any of this series.

>93 Carol420: Why do people do that. Just return the book!!!

Good news about The Hunters. I loved his Payne and Jones series, some of the humour in that reminds me of Myron Bolitar and this is one of my favourite series. So looking forward to see what The Hunters is like.

>94 Andrew-theQM: Lucas Davenport is great - I read the first 8 or so but so long ago that it'll all be new. I also read the first Lincoln Rhyme (needed to do that before the movie) but none of the others - just no time.

A couple other series:

Dewey Andreas by Ben Coes
Mark Beamon by Kyle Mills (Mills is the author who took over the Mitch Rapp series by Vince Flynn after Flynn's death)
Scot Horvath by Brad Thor
Elvis Cole by Robert Crais

sorry - I noticed most of mine tend to run into the thriller category rather than straight up suspense/mystery...lol

The Country House Mystery series by Georgette Heyer is also very interesting. It doesn't seem to actually be a "series" just a theme

>93 Carol420: amazon had the first 3 books in the series for $15 plus change for the kindle edition when I looked it up yesterday. Since none of my libraries had it, I got it.

>98 bhabeck: I always consider thrillers part of the mystery and Suspense genre. I sometimes find it hard to separate out thrillers, mystery and Suspense. Most books have an element of all these. I don't know the first two series but have read a couple of the Elvin Cloe books and enjoyed them. Also read one of the Scott Horvath series (ROO) and enjoyed the character.

May I suggest to swap Kuzneski and Goddard (or Carter and Berry - or...)? That way you balance the genres across the months. You may have noticed that I sit out the more "adventure" kind of reads. I'm happy with reading only two a month, three would be quite a squeeze.
