What are you reading this month?
For the author from Middle East square (and the DeweyCAT) I'm reading The Gaza Kitchen: a Palestinian Culinary Journey by Laila El-Haddad & Maggie Schmitt (641.59). It is more than just a cookbook; in addition to recipes, it discusses the culture of the Gaza Strip. Ms. El-Haddad is also the author of Gaza Mom, which I plan to read sometime.

Made into a movie: Das Leben der Hochgräfin Gritta von Rattenzuhausbeiuns is a fairy tale written at age 13 by Gisela von Arnim, with the help of her mother Bettina von Arnim, whose name helped to publish it, I think. And this gives me my first Bingo on my card.

Thanks everyone, I found these cards quite easy to fill, they just naturally seemed to fit with my reading.

Thanks, I will gladly accept and pass the trophy along to the next person who completes their card. I would love to keep the puppy though!

Award winner square: One of Ours by Willa Cather, 1923 Pulitzer Prize in Fiction. This has been a controversial book; it is divided into two parts: life on a Nebraska farm and serving in World War I. Cather was criticized by some for writing about the war when she had not been there. I think this is a beautifully written book, especially as a study of character and with lovely descriptions of settings. Personally, I preferred the first section of the story.

Finished the Poetry and Plays category with Rough Music by Deborah Digges.
25sallylou61
>24 Kristelh: You are doing fine, Kristel. You already have 2 bingos (2nd horizontal line and 2nd vertical line). This challenge should be fun; do as much of the card as you want. I notice you have only 3 squares left on your BingoDOG, and are using different books for the BingoDOG and Woman BingoPUP, which is admirable.

>25 sallylou61:, thanks for the words of encouragement. I have enjoyed both Bingo Challenges but have just let them happen.

Forgot to post this when I finished. For the short story collection square, I read Get in Trouble by Kelly Link. This was a good collection of speculative fiction stories, I liked more of the stories than I didn't.
28LisaMorr
Finally got a bingo with An Unquiet Mind: A Memoir of Moods and Madness for the woman in science square!
I have 10 squares left and I have the 10 books picked out, just a matter of getting them read.
