Hi lindseynichols - we meet again! I've read and enjoyed Persepolis and Persepolis 2 by Marjane Satrapi. I also read her book Embroideries about the sex lives of Iranian women, which was good but not as enjoyable as the Persepolis series.

I recently read Joe Sacco's Palestine, which was a mixed bag, but mostly good.

I have been stuck on The Complete Maus for a long time, I think I need to start it over.

Have not read many other graphic novels, but American Born Chinese and Epileptic are on my list, as is the entire Sandman series by Neil Gaiman, and several by Guy Delisle

hi fannyprice! i did quite like Persepolis I and II. i'm also a fan of Guy Delisle's books, especially Pyongyang...i'm having a vexing problem posting long(?!) lists of touchstone links on here. hence my deleted posts above. ergh. but anyhow. i enjoyed American Born Chinese and Epileptic. i haven't read any Neil Gaiman at all, but {scribbles on list} i'll have to give him a try soon. thanks for your comments!

I've enjoyed the Y: The Last Man series, The Rabbi's Cat and Deogratias: A Tale of Rwanda (although this tale is one that is hard to "enjoy").

I'm also a fan of Ghost World and Neil Gaiman's Sandman.

Sadly, those are actually the only two graphic novels I've read. (And only the first Sandman book at that.) I actually went to the local B&N to pick some up the other day, specifically looking for Palestine which not only did they not have but their graphic novels selection was horrible and in no order whatsoever. I almost picked up Jimmy Corrigan but ended up deciding on a cheaper paperback. That seems to be my problem with Graphic Novels. They're just a tad more expensive than other books so I always seem to pick them up and put them back.

It really is a shame because I loved the Chris Ware comic that ran in the NY Times Sunday Magazine for awhile.

I loved The Complete Maus by Art Spiegelman. Incredibly moving and very well written/drawn.

My favorites are...

-Michael Chabon's Escapist series

-Fun Home

-Persepolis

-The Best American Comics 2006

-I just read Robot Dreams. Check it out.

You guys have convinced me to finally check out the Sandman series.

Hey...if so many of us have read some of these popular works, why aren't they listed in our shared group library?

Good idea for a group! Thanks for starting it.

Hi guys,
my favourites are (thus far)
Watchmen epic & classic
Kickback new & crime noir
"Die Band" by Mawil biographical & funny
"The Metamorphosis" by Peter Kuper disturbing & kafkaesk

On my reading list definitely is Persepolis, Maus and V for Vendetta.
Thanks for starting this group, since graphic novels are completely underrated so far.

I recently purchased Mouse Guard Volume 1: Fall 1152 and enjoyed that immensely. I think it probably read better as individual issues, but it's still a well-written story and the art is beautiful. The second storyline is being released right now as individual issues, Mouse Guard, Winter 1152. The collected edition for the second volume will be released sometime next year.

Another series that has just come out is The Mice Templar. It's released through Image comics, and I think the second issue just came out today. If you have ever read the Redwall series and liked that, you might enjoy either of these series.

V for Vendetta is good. Watchmen is in my TBR stack right now. Sandman is good too!

I belong to a Comics/Graphic Novel discussion group at one of my local bookstores, and Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns was recently discussed.

I've recently read Alice In Sunderland which was absolutely amazing. It doesn't really have much of a driving plot but covers the history and folklore of Sunderland and interweaves it with connections to Alice Liddell and Lewis Carroll. It touches on many other things as well and some small sections are partly auto-biographical.

Has anyone read Jonathan Lethem's Omega the Unknown comics? I think two have been published so far.

My favourite is Transmetropolitan by Warren Ellis; from there, I'd have to list Alan Moore, Garth Ennis, and Mike Mignola as my favourites. I got into Sandman, but haven't really connected with Gaiman's other work.

Here's a rather hastily compiled top 20 that I will probably want to come back and change in a day or two. They're in no order except that Watchmen is #1.

Watchmen
Maus
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns
The R. Crumb Coffee Table Art Book
Understanding Comics
Essential Fantastic Four Volume 3
A Contract With God
Kingdom Come
DC Universe: The Stories of Alan Moore
Daredevil: Born Again
Give Me Liberty
Jimmy Corrigan
The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen
X-Men: The Dark Phoenix Saga
136862::Wolverine
82851::Saga of the Swamp Thing Book One
191768::Marvels
Essential Spider-Man Volume 1
210176::Swamp Thing: Dark Genesis
26131::Ghost World

PS I limited myself to 3 titles each by Alan Moore and Frank Miller; otherwise, this might very well consist of nothing but stuff they've written. :)

PSS It seems I'm having problems with the links as well, Lindsey. :

I redid (& tweaked) the above for clarity as an Amazon Listmania! list. You can read it here:
