Has anybody here read Marked by PC Cast? I was just browsing through a bookstore and came upon it, thought it looked interesting, so I bought it for my collection. I had never heard of it before seeing it just a couple days ago. Any opinions on it?

So nobody replied, but I went ahead and read this book. It was really good! I enjoyed it. It is completely different from other vampire books I have read, in that one is not "bitten" or anything to become a vampire. Becoming a vampire is marked by biological changes that happens in certain people's bodies when they are teenagers. It's actually a really neat concept.
It is also an interesting blend of vampire and Paganism...lots of pagan ritual and beliefs are depicted in the book, which also gave it another interesting spin.
I also read the second one, Betrayed, which was also very good. I recommend them!

hey i just read this or i would have replied. actually i just read the book too. i loved it and cant wait to get the second one. zoey is a really cool character that you can connect to and all of us have problems with the "in crowd" that we have to deal with. your right it does mix in a lot of pagan rituals. sort of like wiccan vampyres.lol

I'm actually carrying this book around with me waiting for an opportunity to start it. It might have to wait until I'm on vacation next week. Glad to hear you liked it!!

i'm actually reading this one now. I like the different take on vampireism but find that Cast is a little too prechy at times when it comes to certain issues that teens face (sex, drinking, homosexuality, etc). overall though i'm enjoying it and will probably look into book 2.

I finally finished Marked during my vacation last week. I liked it better than the couple adult stories I read by her. It didn't really strike me as preachy, but sometimes I can be rather oblivious to that kind of stuff. I have already requested the sequel from the library but will probably have to wait a bit for it to come in as there is a waiting list.

i just finished betrayed not too long ago. i dont no if i liked it as much as the first one. thers a lot of drama. but overall its not a bad book. the third one is coming out in march.

The third one, Chosen, is out. Anybody read that one yet? I think I'll have to order it. :)
9aliahill
I finished reading Chosen a couple of weeks ago, and it proved just as wonderful as the first two. I really love this series. Chosen has an interesting twist at the end which I never saw coming, and now I must get the next book as soon as it comes out!

I own and have read all three of PC & Kristin Cast's House Of Night books: Marked, Betrayed and Chosen. I absolutely loved them! :) I can hardly wait for the next one, Untamed to come out in October.

I own all of them and I got my best friends into them also! We love them!!!! We've all re-read them probably 3 or 4 times each, and since I am the one that owns the only copies right now, that means we have to share. It's actually kind of funny. During school, usually on a Friday, one of them would be arguing over who wanted to bring one of them home again to reread and some of our fellow classmates were confused about what we were 'sharing'. When we told them it was one of the best series in the world, they'd give us weird looks. Oh well-- too bad for them!
They are great-- it's not the same old vampire story line! I promise, if you pick up Marked you will not put it down until the end-- and even then you will be eager to grab the next one! I cannot wait until Untamed comes out!! Maybe LT's Early Reviewers will get some ARC's of it? I noticed, unfortunately too late, that last October they had ARC's of Chosen I was one day late joining to request it-- one stupid day! Oh, I was so PO'ed, as wore my friends that I mentioned already in this post.

I've not read any of these. Which other vamp author would you guys say has a similar style? I'm trying to figure out if I'd like them.
14The_Book_Queen
Heck yes! Read it in less than a day and a half. Loved it, of course, and I cannot, I repeat, CANNOT, wait until March 2009 for Hunted: A House of Night Novel!!!!

I just finished Untamed, and seriously, they canNOT end a book like that. I'm so frustrated. I absolutely cannot wait until the 5th book comes out. I want to know what happens!
16The_Book_Queen
I know! But you have to give them credit: By ending it like that, they're guarenteeing that you will be back for the next one!
I have to say, why can't she just stick with a guy though? Just one! I mean, not to call her a slut or anything, but she really needs to stop looking at EVERY guy that comes into her life as a potential boyfriend. Can't some of them just be friends? Or does this only occur in my boring life? LOL.

I know. I do find that aspect of Zoey's character a bit frustrating. It IS possible, after all, to have male friends and not view them as anything but. But for Zoey, totally not the case. Her hormones are out of control. I hope it calms down in the next book. I really, really do.
18The_Book_Queen
I know. I was really hoping that it would be her and Erik forever, but then they bring in another guy or bring back an old one and if she ever settles down with just one guy, we probably won't know who it is until the last possible minute!
Still, despite this annoying character flaw, I still love the books. The story line and some of the other characters more than make up for it. However ,if she gets worse in the next book, I'm not so sure that I can promise this!

I haven't read the book but....does she have any guy friends?
I have to say, many guys that came into my life were automatically potential boyfriends.

Yeah, she technically has two-- but they are both gay, so that is probably why, to be honest. Not to be rude or insulting, but they have made her into more of a, well, slut in the last few books, and any hot guy that comes around her seems to be automatic 'maybes' on her list, even when she did have a steady boyfriend.
Still, the series is a good, if you can get past this character flaw. I would suggest you read at least the first one, Marked, which is probably still my favorite out of the series, just to see if it's your thing. :)

I read the first two books and I the only thing I dislike about them is the narration. It's like Cast has ADD and can't keep one thought going for more than a few lines before she starts on some racist rant.
23EarthDragon
They are there. They aren't exactly direct, but Cast claims that goths don't bathe and all Christians are pediphiles just to name a couple.
24bgale11
I just picked up Marked and from reading everyone's posts I think I am in for a really good book. =)
25Kat32
I've read Marked and I have to say I really enjoyed it so of course I went out and got the rest of the series but like most book addicts haven't had a chance to read them yet.
26The_Book_Queen
Maybe I missed something, but I don't remember any direct OR indirect racist rants, especially about Goths (which wouldn't technically be called racist, though yes, making inappropriate comments would still be rude, don't get me wrong!) or Christians. Maybe one of the characters might have mentioned something about that once, as a joke or something, I'm not sure, but I don't believe so, nor do I remember anything about that in the books....
I'll admit that I could have missed this, or simply pushed it out of my mind while reading becuase it was irrevelant, but I don't think so.
I'm not saying that you are wrong, EarthDragon, simply that I do not remember any thing of the sort. I'll have to go back and check though, so that if I'm wrong, I don't look like a ____ (fill in the blank with whatever word you can think of or feel is appropriate) for saying that it wasn't there when it was. :)

I like the books and enjoy reading them. I already read Chosen and still have to read Hunted and Tempted.

I am rereading this series from the beginning now that my daughter told me there were additional books written after Hunted also by Kristen and PC Cast. I love this series! So do both of my daughters and my mother.
I only wish they would make this series into a series of movies. I would love to see how they were able to bring the adding of the vampire tattoos to life. I think it would be a wonderfully interesting series if they were willing and able to get enough detail in the movie.
I am a fan of reading a book or books and then seeing the interpretation of it on the big screen. It gives me a chance to think about how I would have done it differently and occasionally it gives me the opportunity to visualize something that I was unable to visualize while I was reading the book.
Unfortunately, I read like I do everything else in my life that is enjoyable. I do it in spurts. I read all day until I finish the book when it is a really interesting book. Then I move right into the next one. If someone interrupts me while I am reading, I am quite confused until I realize they are not actually invading my book.
