This one has bothered me for a long time. When using touchstones to add an author, the correct author will show up on the right side of the page, but when I preview or post the message, the author is not linked. If I go back to the message and delete and then retype one of the brackets around the author, it works.

This is a test. Lisa Carey is my wife.

Works for me. Can you give me an example of it not working?
5tottman
>3 timspalding: I couldn't figure out how to add a screenshot here so I sent you an email with a screenshot of it not working, using Lisa Carey as an example.

I should add as >4 lesmel: mentions it's very inconsistent. Just sometimes there are no problems, other times it just doesn't work.

Okay, I'm thinking this is just database lag. It needs to write the new touchstones and then it turns around and reads them. The main databases are super fast, but could be behind by a quarter of a second easily.
I'll look to see if I'm right. Something like this I *should* have programmed to take account for that.

Very first post of this thread. If it were just lag, wouldn't it appear 10 hours later? Nope. Would have to edit and resave to get it to appear.

I need a testable situation. I'm not sure how to get it.

Looks like you only get one shot at the bug. As soon as the bug shows up for an author, a second try squashes the bug.
15lesmel
Try an obscure author? One that hasn't been mentioned in the last 30 days?
Ok. Example: Arthur Conan Doyle....not sure if I've jinxed this or not. I did not touchstone that...so, in theory the bug should trigger when >9 timspalding: tries it. Maybe.

>15 lesmel: you may be on to something there with the infrequently mentioned author.

Examples (not touchstoned, but still producing the bug):
Bell Hooks
Audre Lorde
Zora Neale Hurston
Alice Walker

Example: Sarah Woodbury
I can replicate this bug every single time with an author that is rarely mentioned or hasn't been mentioned in some time.
Replication steps:
1. Choose an obscure or lesser commented on author.
2. Touchstone the author in a message.
3. See the touchstone work in the right hand section.
4. Click preview, the touchstone doesn't link.
And/Or
5. Click post message, the touchstone doesn't link.
6. Repeat above steps with same author in a new message and suddenly the touchstone will link.

I just had this happen with a title touchstone too. Let's see if it works with another obscure title.
The Mysterious Odic Force
The Pig The PRince and the Unicorn
eta: nope, can't get it to happen on command with title, but it definitely did in my post here: http://www.librarything.com/topic/250264

Re >24 kristilabrie:, I seem to be able to get the same results as >1 tottman:, but only if I type the closing 2 brackets for author Touchstones quickly. There seems to be some sort of speed/searching issue here with adding Touchstones.
When adding an author Touchstone, if I type the 1st closing bracket and wait until the "Touchstones" on the right shows me work results, then add the 2nd closing bracket to show author Touchstone results, I get the link to the author the first time round. Otherwise, if I type the closing brackets quickly, without the "Touchstones" search running through a work search first, the author is not linked in my first post (even though the name will show up to the right of my post box). If I click to Edit my post after, and save the message, the Touchstone is added correctly.
