All this talk about how Susan Rice unmasked Trump officials in intelligence surveillance transcripts for political purposes but I don't think they're thinking this through. Ms. Rice couldn't have known who the masked person was before she asked for it to be unmasked, so how could it possibly have been political?
And now I see McConnell has asked for it to be investigated. Has the entire Republican establishment gone insane?

Investigate away--as long as it doesn't take away from the Russian Trump investigation!
Trump, Citing No Evidence, Suggests Susan Rice Committed Crime
By GLENN THRUSH and MAGGIE HABERMANAPRIL 5, 2017
...Mr. Trump, who has a history of promising to produce evidence to back up his unverified claims, and failing to do so, did not make clear what crime he was accusing Ms. Rice of committing. It is legal and not unusual for a national security adviser to request the identities of Americans who are mentioned in intelligence reports provided.
Intelligence officials said any requests that Ms. Rice may have made would have been handled by the intelligence agency responsible for the report, which in most cases would have been the National Security Agency.
Leaking classified information could be a crime, but no evidence has surfaced publicly that indicates Ms. Rice did that and she flatly denied doing so in her interview with MSNBC. “I leaked nothing to nobody, and never have and never would,” Ms. Rice said...

Rice was NS Advisor to the out-going president. It stands to reason that Obama WH intelligence officials' briefings would have included "friendly" names in the high officials (if any) in the details of the briefs' accounts and that the "masked" names would have been people dealing with them; and, had high officials been Obama-admin. officials, that would have been obvious to Rice.
As they were not, then they could only have been people involved in the soon-to-be-inaugurated administration of Donald Trump.
So, it also stands to reason that the "masked " U.S. citizens' names would be people who were directly involved in one way or another with Trump or his people.
Seriously! is this too complicated for you!!!?

On April 3, 2017, Eli Lake reported in Bloomberg View that as National Security Advisor, Rice had requested that the identities of some Americans mentioned in intelligence reports related to the campaign and presidential transition of Donald Trump be unmasked.75 Any request for an American's identity to be unmasked required approval by the National Security Agency; NSA Director Michael Rogers said the NSA evaluated each request to determine "Is there a valid need to know in the course of the execution of their official duties?” and “Is the identification necessary to truly understand the context of the intelligence value that the report is designed to generate?”76 Rice said that she asked for identities of U.S. persons to be revealed to provide context to the intelligence reports, and not for political purposes.7778

Twitter alleges Trump administration tried to unmask critical account
By Harper Neidig - 04/06/17
Twitter filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration on Thursday alleging that U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials had tried to get the company to reveal the identity of an anonymous account that has been critical of the agency.
The lawsuit alleges CBP agents issued an administrative summons to Twitter asking it to reveal the identity of the user @ALT_uscis, an account that has been critical of the administration and specifically the US Citizenship and Immigration Services and claims to be run by a government employee.
Both CBP and USCIS are part of the Department of Homeland Security, which is named in the lawsuit.
Shortly after the news broke, @ALT_uscis posted a screenshot of the First Amendment...
