Hi everyone, I came across Library Thing very recently,

I'm a professional illustrator with several of my books listed on Library Thing, however clicking on my name link on the book listings goes to a very inaccurate author listing page, which displays numerous books by other people with the same name as me, books which I've had nothing to do with. However almost all of the books I have illustrated are missing.

Is there a guide to fixing inaccurate listings?

Many thanks

John

That's most likely a job for the Combiners group (https://www.librarything.com/groups/combiners). Welcome to LT, hope you enjoy it here!

It would be a lot easier if we knew who "Bwcabod" is.

If the books are "missing", it's because nobody has cataloged them, at least not with you credited as the illustrator.

>1 Bwcabod:

On LT, all books by authors with the same name are on the same author page. That page can be split with works assigned to the appropriate author (or, in this case, illustrator).

almost all of the books I have illustrated are missing

First of all, author pages are not, necessarily, an exhaustive list of everything someone has written. A book won't be listed on an author page unless someone has catalogued it here.

Secondly, most books are listed only by the author, not secondary authors such as illustrators, editors, etc., unless someone has added that person as an "other author".

Which are the books that are missing?

I did some work and separated out the author into two known (and one unknown) John Shelleys. I added a disambiguation notice with birthdates when known.

I looked at one book you had added: Nasty

I could see from the cover that you had illustrated it, but you had not included that information in your entry. You can always edit an entry to make corrections, add more authors, ...

Your copy was in a work by itself, so I checked, and found a work with several copies and combined them. I checked 'Other authors' on the main work page, and saw that there were none listed, so I clicked on the edit link, and then the 'recalculate' link. There were two illustrators listed. I don't know anything about the other one, but I confirmed John Shelley as a secondary author on some editions of the work. I also had to go to the author page and move it to the right split. It is now on the John Shelley 1.

Any book you enter that you want on your author page:
1) Include yourself as an 'other author' in your entry.
2) Go to the 'other author' section of the main work page and confirm the information.
3) Once the work shows up on the disambiguation page, edit the division to move it to your page.

If you need help, just ask in the combiners group.

Hi everyone

Thank you very much for looking into this and helping to sort things out!

Lorax - I'm John Shelley (the illustrator that is, not the computer programmer or the writer of westerns!) - several of my books are on Library Thing I see, though not all. Many thanks to Wademlee and MarthaJeanne for correcting listings!

I fully admit I'm a complete 'Library Thing' novice, so apologies if I was asking an obvious question.
I notice there is an option to register as an author - but does that include illustrators too?

>8 Bwcabod: Couple of things (and I was going to tell you these in a comment, and then realized it might be useful for the next innocent soul that wanders LT's way):

You can easily reference a member by just inserting an at sign (@) in front of their name, and then it's a nice link to them (and doesn't cause them to be notified, or anything else untoward). For example, @MarthaJeanne or @wademlee. You may point out a specific post you're replying to by inserting the angle bracket directly in front of the post number (as I did here, in the reply to you). This causes the nice link back to the post. You may use multiple links if you're referring to more than one post; just use >7 JerryMmm: and >2 Thwaite: (both of whom have kindly pointed you to the combiners group, which is populated with folks who can help you with many of your questions.

Become a member of LT; really, the money's a small amount, and we're a pretty worthwhile bunch. You should also add some books from your library that are just books you like, and consider reading some of the groups to get a feel for the place. I have a special place in my heart for illustrators, and usually try to give them credit (where possible) for the books I've listed here on LT.

I would think that illustrators ought to be able to have an author badge, but it's probably not up to me. You might consider asking @Lorannen directly, via a comment on her profile. She's the staff member most likely to have that answer, and be able to assist you.

Lastly, Bill Gates is the author of the last book you added (you don't have an author listed).

That's terrific Lyndatrue (er, I mean @Lindatrue ) :)
I'm learning more about the site with every minute - and will definitely check the combiners group!

Actually I wasn't aware there was a paid membership, I assume its different from the membership I have already, will check the benefits.

Thank you very much for all your help!

... I don't recall adding any book by Bill Gates, I don't know how that happened, nothing to do with me! But I did upload some of my own titles earlier.

The basic difference is the number of books you can catalogue. The free membership limits you to 200; with the paid membership, it's infinite.
